I have had nothing but outstanding cuts at dearinger and I feel guilty that I cheated on them recently by trying out a salon closer to my house- never again!!! The cut I got at this unnamed salon doesnt compare to the cut I usually get at dearinger. Dearinger is always courteous, offers refreshments and asks me exactly what I want. Along the way I am shown the cut and asked if I am happy (which I always am). They take their time, are always gentle with my hair, and the cut is always precise and beautiful. I will never go elsewhere again- its worth my 40 min drive!

I've been going to Dan for about a year. He is incredible. I expected to pay at least $75 for his cut, but he only charges $43. The salon has a great referral program as well. Sure, they try to push product on you, but I just politely decline. It's that simple. The salon needs an interior designer, badly, but that's the least of my worries when someone is taking shears to my hair. Go see Dan, he's worth every penny.

I really like this place becuase they give me great customer service, and i book my next apt 5 weeks from that day so my hair is in tip top shape. My hair has never had so much natural shine before comming here.

I starting coming here about 2 years ago and frankly wont go anywhere else. I walk out of here looking like i payed 500 but a 43 dollar hair cut is all i payed for. The service here is amazing and the girls in the front are always sweet. i especially like the Kelly, she always remembers me and I only go there every 9 weeks or so. My haircut always looks good no matter how bad i may treat it at home. They have these fantanstic condioning treatments that make my hair look virgin. I Love it. I will never go anywhere else

Every time I go in there- go back every once in awhile because it's convenient, I get a mediocre haircut. They refuse to give my hair any volume when drying because they won't be able to see if the cut is just right. Even with the lame blowout, my cut is never that great. Plus they keep a chart of everything you buy from them and try so hard to sell you every product you didn't buy last time, most of which are expensive and not organic.

Mark Dearinger did give me a nice cut and I had a coupon for a good percentage off, so a $90 cut was about $66. The thing that bother me (and many reviewers on other sites) is how much the shop tries to get you to buy product. I actually do now use all the hair products, but I buy they off Ebay for a lot less money. I didn't go back to Dearinger again.

When the owner is not there, and the stylist isn't pushing to sell you her own products (which are very good, but pricy) then this salon is FABULOUS. However, when the owner is there, he is so unprofessional that I nearly walked out in the middle of my cut. He decides what HE thinks your cut should be and pushes you to change your style. It's extrememly uncomfortable.

Dearinger was rated very highly and I thought I would give it a try, but it was not good at all. I got a color and cut. When I left, I looked worse than when I'd arrived. It was a horrible experience. The colorist was supposed to give me highlights and my hair was all one tone. The cut was uneven and unflattering. They were also very pushy about buying their products. I would never return there.

i started going to the famous "mark dearinger" and i walked out almost in tears. i don't know why i went back but the 2nd cut was awesome and the 3rd cut i almost wanted to shave my head. he is a great stylist but doesnt care about what the customer wants, he also does not consider the shape of their face. he explains what he plans to do and then does something totally different. my husband goes to another stylist there named Dan he is amazing we love him

The worst part of my experience was dealing with the owner. My appointment came with a consult from the owner (a very unkept, unclean, and un-professional man). He insulted my hair and proceeded to tell the stylist to smooth the front and scrunch curl the back aka a MULLET. The stylist had no choice but to do as they were instructed. My advice...call first and make sure the owner won't be there.

I just moved to San Diego and went here cause I read that it got the Best in SD award. I went to Aaron at the La Jolla location and I had the best experience. He listened to what I wanted then offered his opinions on what he thought would be best for the look I wanted before we decided on a game plan. He explained everything he was doing as he did it, showed me the products he used, and explained what I needed to do to get the same look at home on my own. I loved the experience.

I visited Dearinger Salon in La Jolla after reading that it was rated the "top salon of 2005." I arrived about five minutes early, and continued to wait in line for 15 minutes just to check in (with only one person in front of me). I finally made it to my stylist who was going to highlight my hair. She first asked me what I specifically DIDN't want done to my hair, and she proceeded to do exactly what I didn't want. While we were discussing my hair, the stylist next to us kept interupting and telling my stylist what she should do (I think he was the owner/manager and he looked like he hadn't showered in days). He was treating her like it was her first day. I found the whole experience very unprofessional. I ended up with dark roots (what I went in to change), and black and red streaks in my hair. It looked horrible, and I believe that she knew it. She asked me if there was anything that I didn't like and I said, "Well, I kind of feel like I still have roots," right then it was like the record stopped. The other stylists stopped what they were doing and were staring at me. It was like a strange Seinfeld Episode. I thought she would offer to fix my hair for me, but she didn't. I paid a very hefty fee and tip and got out of there as quickly as I could. I will never go back, and I will never recommend the salon.
