Good food & friendly, but be careful using coupons, 8/26/2010

My wife and I have eaten at Doc's many many times over the past 3-4 years, and it's one of our regular hang-out places with friends. The food is quite good (deep-fried brownie bites!), and we've... always enjoyed talking to the various folks on the wait staff. Overall, it's an excellent place for socializing and getting a quick bite to eat. Unfortunately, they seem to have an issue with coupons. Because we spend so much time there, we thought it might be a good idea to pick up some coupons through a well-known restaurant coupon site, so we did, but Doc's did not honor the coupons as written. They say "no alcohol", which is fine since we don't really drink anyway, but the Doc's interpretation is "no drinks" including soda, etc., making it almost impossible to use the coupons in question ($25 off if you make a $35 purchase) if you're just a couple. Two typical appetizers, meals, and desserts aren't expensive enough! The sodas would have put us over the top, or so we figured, but for some reason the $3.50 for soda was too much for the Doc's manager to allow. I don't get it. We ended up getting the coupons refunded, and will use them for other places instead. Still a nice place, but I'm very disappointed in the way Doc's management handled the situation. It does indicate that their prices are reasonable, but it makes me wonder about their business ethics. We bought the coupons in good faith because we like the place...
