Stay Away
Man, I wish I had read these reviews before I went. They'll upsell you on every possible procedure, screw up the billing, hunt you down for money you've already paid, and at the end of it all your mouth will be in worse shape than it began. Seriously, don't be tempted. STAY AWAY!

Reviewing the dentist, not the practice
Dr. Hargrove is a fast talking, con artist with a license in dentistry. Most of the reviews on here are so true. I'm guessing the "good" ones were written by his staff.


I went for a crown and total treatment was estimated at $781, with an out-of-pocket expense of $353. Insurance paid $465 and I received another bill for $358. He recommended a lab to make the crown, but did not bill the insurance company for the service. And the normal treatment was upcoded to more expensive items. This resulted in add'l expenses for me. I am disputing the deception. His practice was bought out by Dental One Associates, but he was -- let go within 2 months. I'm not surprised because had they kept him, I'm sure a lot of quality business would have been lost.

If the dentist office is empty, there's a reason!!
I went to the Dunwoody Dental Spa, J. Lauren Hargrove DDS for a simple checkup and cleaning. First clue, the office was totaly empty. The teeth cleaning and exam was the roughest and most painful I have ever experienced and caused me to experience excessive pain both at the time of the visit and afterwards. I was also shocked when I was given a report showing that I needed thousands of dollars worth of dental work, similar to someone else who posted on this site. Suffice it to say I will not be back. Lesson learned: Please do your research before choosing a dentist.

Issues
I've been to Hargrove for a few years and even referred people to him. His practice went through a "transition" of sorts, being bought by a corportation or such, and they use that as an excuse for terrible service i.e. their working on the system, they haven't converted x,y and Z, etc They don't have a problem sending you bills, but they can't manage to follow-up on promises to get in touch with you regarding insurance/out-of-pocket quotes etc. Like a previous reviewer, after months I still haven't seen the promised email from the office manager. A friend prepaid for services (on his treatment plan) and was awaiting call backs to schedule the procedure, but they wouldn't call or would have some excuse to not be able to get him in or the required items were not back from a lab (long after the typical lead-time). He finally got the work finished, it looks good but the lack of professionalism and attitude here is absolutely not worth the hassle. Too many good, professional and accountable dentists in Atlanta to do so! They were bought for a reason - they can't manage a practice!...

Overbilling doesn't seem to phase this office
I was a patient for a couple of years at this office until a billing dispute forced me to leave. They billed for a procedure twice and then did not honor their PPO discount agreement. Dr. Hargrove does great work - but watch what you are billed for like a hawk. The worst part is that even when I tried to get the matter resolved they kept telling me that they "would look into it" and then just never get back to me. Absolutely the worst billing experience I have ever had with a companywill NOT recommend this office to anyone else....
