amazing food sss

I have been to Ecco twice this past year and have yet to be disapointed. My boyfriend and I have always received stellar service and amazing food. This restaurant is definitely one of my favorite here in Atlanta. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is intrigued by foods out of the ordinary, that are fresh, and never the same. Might I suggest, if it is your first time, as I do in any restaurant, always get the small bites to share and slowly throughout the night, if you like it, order more and move on to a bigger course! I truly feel that a restaurant's smaller bites are what distinguishes it from a good to an extraordinary restaurant. If a chef and his staff are taking the time and care into a smaller dish, you know the the entrees will be amazing!

From all the great reviews, I thought this would be super-awesome and it was a little ho-hum. There were some okay flavors, like in the lentil-chorizo ragout, but nothing really burst with flavor or made me say 'I would definitely come back just for this dish.' The service was very good once they sat us in the booth the waiter said he could not seat us in (likely so he could keep more people in his area).What got us off to a poor start was when they brought us cold (like fridge cold) bread. That is a big pet peeve of mine, and not something I would expect of such a highly rated restaurant.The picked vegetables were pretty good, but they were clearly pickled in pure vinegar. They were hard to eat, but addictive at the same time.The sausage pizza was just okay. Nothing special here.The dessert was weird. My wife is pregnant and I told the waitress so. They gave us chocolate balls with cognac in it. Okay, so the cognac is cooked off, but dark chocolate has a bunch of caffeine in it, which is not great for pregnant ladies. It also had an unsweetened cocoa powder on it that made it very hard to eat. We couldn't finish them.

We were a party of 4 who had a reservation made through Open Table. When we arrived, we were told to wait at the bar until our table was ready. This had never happened to us before. After 45 minutes, I went back and discovered that the girl had forgotten about us. We were seated a few minutes later, but not in the area that I had requested. The food was all right, but the service was awful. We had a new waiter who couldn't get his act together. From the time we arrived until we left was over three hours. I contacted the Fifth Group office regarding this and NEVER received a response. Also I never received credit in their dining program. This was very disappointing since Ecco was my wife's favorite bistro.
