Every once in a while we get a hankerin' for Mexican food, even though I consider it "Death on a Plate". But they have the best chicken soup. It doesn't have a lot of the goop that other places put in theirs. It's flavorful and has lots of chicken and avocado without being too busy. I usually get that and a big-ass Texas margarita that takes me the entire dinner to finish and between it and the soup I am full before my entree comes. My hub always gets the flautas and he seems to like them pretty well, but not the after effects of the Mexican food. Ugh. Usually the service is pretty good. Last time we went the waiter was an eejit, but all the other times, it's been fine and fast.

Wow. I was astounded by the craptacular meal we were served at El Porton. Stale chips, watery salsa and that was just the appetizer. We should have taken the hint and walked out, but we were hungry, and love Mexican food. But, even by American standards this was junk. The enchilada plate had all the flavor of a cardboard box.

If you want some decent mexican with a little more authenticity and a LOT more FLAVOR try El Zorito (I think that's the name) just south of Canton street....

We are Hispanic and when we got to the restaurant we were sitted by the hostest on a section that was empty. We felt discriminated because everybody else were sitted on the other section. As people came to  the restaurant, they were sitted on that section, while we were on the other section by ourselves just because we had painter's clothes. We have gone to bahama breeze, chili's, and we wearing our painter clothes and we have never experienced any discrimination against us. It's hard to believe that a restaurrant that is from your own country would do this to you.  I will never go back to this place and do not recommend to any fellow Hispanic people.

We are from California and are on a constant quest to find a good Mexican restaurant here in the Atlanta area, specifically near Roswell/Marietta. El Porton is the best we have found so far. They have good variety on their menu, including fish tacos and chile verde, which you don't find too often at other Mexican restaurants in the area. And those entree's are good. What we call Chile Relleno in California, they call Chile Poblano here. If you order a Chile Relleno, they tell me you get a bell pepper stuffed with ground beef. That is just wrong, but at least it can be rectified. The guacamole is good. The bar is good serving margaritas made from scratch, not with a margarita mix. That is a step above most chain Mexican restaurants. They have top shelf tequilas available. What more can you ask for? We have found the service to be good and helpful. They try to accomodate special requests.
