New to Jackson
I used Estes for years when I lived in the metro area. I was glad to find out they also serviced the Jackson area. My technician, Darren Pace was wonderful. He explained what he was doing, offered recomendations and took the time to tell me why they would be beneficial. I will definitely be making the changes he recommended.

Very High Mark Up to me
We signed up with Estes for our 2nd yr to maintain our hvac systems.
A few weeks back, our upstairs furnace stopped working in the morning. Estes arrived and quickly diagnosed the problem - we needed a new ignitor - a small rod that ignites the gas.
The tech had one on truck and that it would cost $195 (supposedly our discounted price because we have a service agreement wih them) That was on top of the $59 trip charge. I googled ignitors and came up with a whole page that ranged from about $20 - $40. I asked the tech if I was missing something - he said he did not know. The home office just tells him what they cost.
I refused the repair then ordered one online for about $25. I left a message at the home office to inquire about an 800% mark up. The manager said that there is a lot that goes into that price and that they only net about 10% on the $195.
So $19 of profit and $176 goes where? That either sounds wrong or like a very inefficient business to me.
Oh, it took me about 1.5 minutes to install the ignitor with ONE screw and a plug that is as simple as connecting a USB cable.
Added to address Estes' 12/19 questions:
#1. Your tech told me it was the ignitor - For his time and travel you chargd me the $59 trip charge
#2. I waited 3 days without heat - no big deal as our upstairs is rarely used to begin with.
#3 I installed an OEM part
#4 I could order a 2nd and still be $145 ahead
#5 Tech told me they have a life span and it just wore out

In the interest of equity I will respond to the facts as listed above with a series of questions. #1) How did you know what part to replace? Simply put, our NATE certified technician traveled out to your home to diagnose the problem. Do you think this guy works for free or does he require Estes to pay him? Gas prices are crazy- Your conclusion assumes Estes does not pay our technicians nor does it cost to operate a service van. #2)How long did you have to wait without heat? We make no bones about it- our technicians carry inventory on their trucks to be able to make repairs ON THE SPOT- it costs us alot of money to carry inventory on our vehicles. #3) We only use OEM parts because they are designed to work with that exact piece of equipment. It's a proven fact that non-OEM parts are inferior and will not last as long as OEM parts. The part you purchased was most likely not an OEM part as OEM parts are typically not sold to non-contractors. #4) What happens if and when your ignitor goes bad? You would have a full 1 year warranty if you purchased this part from Estes...no one online warrants parts for any meaningful period. #5) Why did your ignitor fail? Once our technician installed the ignitor and got your furnace running he would have completed a series of checks to insure this did not happen again. In the end, our prices are commensurate with other HVAC contractors in Atlanta; some are higher, some lower. I felt I should respond with the facts to better explain and defend how we justify our pricing. As an average consumer I might be of the same opinion as this customer without these facts! Excellent
Got in touch with them to better insulate my house, save on utility bills. They did a great job helping me complete the forms for the GA Power rebate program. The work was well done and I can already notice some improvement. Great team they have doing the work.
Only word of caution is to carefully review the quote before you get started. Have any “gray” areas clarified in writing. If not I would have ended up losing out on over a grand worth of work, that I “thought” the original quote covered. No specific criticisms for Estes, that’s the case with any home improvement project. All that did here was lower my SERVICE score from 5 to 4.
