I love Evans! I grew up in the area and Evans has always been there. It is the second oldest retaurant in DeKalb (Matthews is the oldest). The lunch/dinner is your typical diner fair. The chicken livers are awesome and the fried catfish is delicious. But its their breakfast that is unbeatable. The owners, Pete and Mike, are very personable and make me feel at home when I come in.

Sometimes, a run-down diner can make us wax nostalgic if the food is worth going back for or if there's some sort of charm. I have tried Evans a few times for lunch, but have been sorely disappointed by the freshness and quality of the food. Everything seems as though it is either out of a can or frozen. The tables were infrequently bussed and the booths were pretty dirty.

I have not been here for breakfast but I had a bad experience at lunch. I got the Pot Roast Special with a drink and paid about 12 bucks. However, the meal wasn't worth about 2 dollars. The Pot Roast was really salty, the turnips tasted tinny and the mashed potatoes were dry and seemed to be made from flakes

This is the best place in town to get breakfast. No frills, delicious breakfasts, the best pancakes in town. My husband and I go here just about every Saturday. We hope it lasts and lasts!
