Disappointed
At my initial visit, I found Dr. Shida's manner to be somewhat abrupt but not unpleasant. My eye exam went without incident and I went up front to chose a new pair of glasses as it had been several years since I had a new pair.
Over the next two and a half months the glasses were sent back to the lab three times. The high index material they were using to make the glasses caused severe distortion I couldn't adjust to - Dr. Shida claimed I wasn't wearing the glasses long enough to "adjust," even though I was wearing them all day for a week at a time. I work as a visual artist can't afford to have headaches all day for a period of several weeks as I adjust to new glasses. I should add that I've never had this problem before, even when switching to new frames with a different prescription. The idea that it should take months to get it right is ludicrous.
As soon as things went awry, the customer service went south. There were several times I called to check on my glasses and was told someone would call me back, then wound up having to call back and check in again. The attitude seemed to be that I was being "difficult."
I finally requested a refund for the glasses (not the eye exam). Dr. Shida claimed that he doesn't know how my insurance company will handle this and again asserted that I should wear the new glasses for a longer period of time.
If you have a "difficult prescription," I wouldn't recommend Eye First - they can't help you
