Buyer beware!, 5/26/2012

In my book Formally Yours of Lilburn, GA is now Formerly Yours! They claim to offer ?friendly, expert advice and excellent customer service.? Much to the contrary, my first and only experience... with this formal wear shop is BUYER BEWARE!!!! If you are lucky to find an off-the-rack dress in your size, you may walk away 100% satisfied. However, being a size 4 petite I had to special order a dress for my son?s destination wedding. Of course, I was required to prepay the order with no returns, refunds, or exchanges. Alternations could be completed within 48 hours for a $45 fee by their in-house seamstress. The dress would arrive within 8-10 weeks as the designer was most reliable with regards to delivery. After waiting 8 weeks and no word from the shop, I was getting concerned. On week 9 I called twice only to be told the dress was scheduled to arrive in the next 7 to 10 days. After 10 more days and no call, I asked Scarlett to please track the special order. On week 10 she informed me there was a factory delay! With no dress and 10 days left before my departure, I was in panic mode. Not to fret, I was told they could alter the size 8 off-the-rack sample dress within 48 hours, and I would be good to go! At this point, I was quite disappointed with their service and suggested they at least cover the cost of the alternation. Instead, I got an arrogant call from the owner, Mrs. Butler, informing me that they had no control over the factory or shipping delays, and would not absorb the cost of the alteration, nor did she offer any compensatory discount or credit to offset their failure to deliver what I ordered. Bottom line, I was being forced to take a dress I did not want. To add insult to injury, the seamstress was swamped, and due to the complexity of my dress, she required two fittings and 7 more days to complete the work at a cost of $65 - CASH ONLY - not the $45 quoted or the 48-hour turn-around promised by the sales associate. Fellow bridesmaids be ware...the tempermant of the employees at this store is unbelievablly hostile and makes the entire bridesmaid dress process miserable. Two scenarios led me to this... conclusion:Scenario 1 -Paying for dressMe: *hands over my Amex *FY Employee: Do you have another form of payment?Me: I prefer this oneFY Employee: Well we prefer other forms of paymentMe: But you can take Amex? Would NOT recommend to a friend-very unhappy

The sales girls at this shop are exactly that SALES people. my impression of this place before and after I bought the dress were completely different. while I was shopping, one of the dresses I liked looked funny in the top b/c i am small chested. The Formally Yours employee assured me that with a smaller size combined with what the seamstress could do, the dress would look normal and not too big. The seamstress could not do the things, the girl claimed. Its a horrible feeling to spend $1500 on a dress and to be disappointed in the way it came out. In addition, they ordered the wrong length. They refunded me the money that it cost for special order, but that money is not nearly worth that all my pictures are going to be out of balance b/c the dress is too short and I can't wear heals. I will look like a dwarf next to my fiance. I ordered a longer dress b/c I wanted a longer dress. also, when they brought me the dress it had creases in the lace right at the top, easy to see and beads were falling off.

Finding the perfect dress

Formally Yours is a wonderful location for formal dress shopping. The salesperson Katie had excellent listening skills. She had many bright smiles and encouraging words. The selection was delightful. And I heard many words of happy customers.

Wonderful Service and Dresses

I ordered my wedding dress and found bridesmaid dresses at this shop and had such wonderful help and such a great time. These ladies took such good care of my family, friends and me that I recommend it to everyone who is out looking for the perfect wedding dress. My sister-in-law found her dress and her bridesmaids dresses here and I couldn't be happier as I am one of the bridesmaids. Again I was treated with such courteous and genuinely friendly service that I will continue to spread the word about this fabulous shop!

Great Customer Service

I bought all of my prom dresses here through high school, so when I got engaged, it was the first place I went. They had a great selection of dresses and the owner along with her employees helped find the dress of my dreams. I brought in some pictures and told them what I was looking for and they found the dress in no time. Along with helping me find the perfect dress, I got a discount and all of my bridesmaids also received a discount which helps with their budget. I loved every minute of my experience and will recommend Formally Yours to all of my Sorority Sisters when it is time for their beautiful day.

Beautiful Gowns for All Occasions!

My mom bought all of my prom and homecoming gowns at Formally Yours over the years, so it was naturally the first place we looked for a wedding gown after I got engaged. We were initially sad to hear that the original owner had passed away since we were last there in late 1990s/early 2000s, as we had gotten to know her over the years of buying gowns there. But her daughter Cathy now owns and operates the store and she is WONDERFUL too - the store is even bigger and better, it's been freshened up, expanded, and new styles and lines have been added, for a very up to date, fashionable feel. \r\rWe found a great dress for a great price, we didn't bother shopping around this time b/c we know that they always have the best prices, but I recommend shopping them LAST after you've seen all the other junk and you'll appreciate their service and selection even more.\r\rAlso, I had NINE bridesmaids and 3 flower girls, all the dresses turned out great. The store caps their alteration fees, so even if someone gains/loses weight and/or the dress doesn't fit (which most b'maids gowns don't fit anyway w/o alterations b/c they're not custom-made), you won't get stuck with huge alteration fees. Most of ours needed only minor alterations, and all of them turned out beautifully!!! My girls were thrilled and the gowns are so cute many of them have even worn them again since the wedding! \r\rShop around Atlanta if you must, then shop Formally Yours last, because you'll get the best deal and best service there! There is a reason they have been in business for nearly 30 years and it's evident when you shop there! Thanks to Cathy and her helpful staff at Formally Yours, my wedding was one of the most beautiful in Atlanta! I couldn't be happier and neither could my bridal party -- also, several of my friends have shopped there too with equally great results!

BEST EXPERIENCE IN WEDDING SHOPPING IN ATL.

This isn't my first visit to Formally Yours and it probably will not be my last. \rMy Wedding Gown, my daughter's prom gowns and now her Wedding Gown.\r \rThe owner, Cathy Butler and her staff could not have been more helpful. It is such a pleasure to shop for such a important event and be treated like you are the most important person in the store. It appeared like she treated everyone that walked in the same. They never placed any pressure on me or my daughter to buy. It seems that they just wanted us to know that they were available to help in any way.\r\rMy daughter told Cathy the style she was looking for and the color scheme for the Bridesmaids. We were shown some of the many dress she had in stock, I have never seen so many Bridal Gowns in one store. \r\rMy daughter found a style similar to what she was looking for and Cathy promised my daughter that she would find the perfect gown for her and she did.\r\rThen we turned to the Bridemaids gowns and again the results was great. Some of the Bridesmaids lived out of the area and she coordinated getting their sizes ordered and sent in pleanty of time for them to be properly fitted. \r\rOh, I almost forgot, as the Mother of the Bride, I found the dress I wanted there and so did the Groom's Mother. \r\rWith their instore seamtress, alterations were easily taken care of.\r\rOf course one of the reasons for shopping at Formally Yours is price. Even though I purchesed from Formally Yours, I did shop around and I could not find a better price or service or a more friendly atmosphere than what I received from Cathy Butler and her staff. I hope she is still there when I have a granddaughter to buy for.\r\rThank You, Thank You, Thank You for everything.\r\rA very satisfied, happy present and future customer.

Dream Come True

Formally Yours was more like a dream come true for me. I've was running around metro Atlanta for the first few month of this year, looking for the right wedding dress and a shop that can handle how picky I am. I found some good reviews for Formally Yours online and recently stopped in to check out them out and their dresses. As soon as I walked in the door I was welcomed by Cathy the owner and a few other staff members. I told them what I was looking for and they found it right away. What I was most impressed with was how friendly Cathy, the staff and the overall atmosphere was, how patient they were with me and how good all of their their advice was. I highly recommend for other brides!

Brides Worst Nightmare

My experience here was HORRIBLE! The owner is extremely RUDE! This shop was the only problem I had in organizing my wedding. I would not recommend this shop to my worst enemy! This is a bait and switch bridal shop. Don't be fooled by the smiling faces and dress selection. It would be worth going elsewhere to avoid the hassle and heartache! I found my bridal gown here and was told that if all of my bridesmaids ordered from them, they would recieve 15% off. What they don't tell you is that when your bridesmaids call they are offered an option to pay 1/2 now and 1/2 on receipt which voids the 15% off deal. (I felt like I committed fraud on my bridesmaids, as I promised a discount that the store didnt honor) They also will take their measurements over the phone and tell them that they are a plus size and try to charge an additional $60 for the dress. None of my bridesmaids were plus sizes, all of them actually ordered regular sizes & had to get their dresses altered down to fit. I caught this scam early on and called to intervene reminding them that one bridesmaid fit the size 8 dress on the rack perfectly so now why where they telling her she needed a 16Plus size? This is a racket to make more money on the dress cost as well as the alteration cost. My bridal dress came in and when I came in for the fitting I found blue dye stains on the dress. The owner-Cathy seemed very mad that I even pointed this out as this was an inconvenience to her to have to order me another dress. I wonder why this dress wasn't inspected on receipt, but I guess that is my job not the bridal shops job. We ordered all of our dresses from bridesmaids, hostess dresses, bridal gown, veil, shoes etc from this shop and we were treated with nothing less than disrespect. The hostess dresses never even came in and the owner didn't even want to refund my money and to this day has not. We will be settling this matter in court. The alterations for my bridal gown left a great deal to be desired. I tripped

Great Gowns, Outstanding Service and Experience

I had a wonderful experience at Formally Yours. After visiting several other shops where I was basically ignored or treated as just another person, I was thrilled with the friendly atmosphere of the entire staff at Formally Yours. I worked mostly with the owner Cathy, but also with Lindsey and another tall girl who's name starts with a ""T"" - sorry can't remember! But they were all great! Cathy has a great eye for gowns and knows what looks best on all different body types, shapes and sizes, as well as for different styles of weddings. She showed me the gowns I requested and described, but also suggested several other styles I never would have otherwise tried on - and I fell in love with one of the gowns she selected for me! I felt so special with the personalized treatment, I can't say enough good things about this shop! \r\rWe got all of my bridesmaids gowns here too and everything turned out amazing for everyone - my family and friends were also very pleased at the prices, quality, and the end result! 5 Stars! Cathy and her staff made my special day even more special and more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. I'm so glad I went there!

Fabulous Dresses--Exceptional Services--No Appointments Required

When my oldest daughter was getting married, we found the dress she loved in a magazine. Then we found it at the BEST price just around the corner from us at Formally Yours. When we got there, we found a friendly staff with expert knowledge and an uncanning ability to know just what you are looking for. They quickly helped us find bridesmaids dresses in the exact shade of green she wanted. So when my youngest daughter got engaged this year, we went back to Formally Yours. Cathy had a new store but the same great service and attitude. After trying on dress after dress, Lindsey brought one over to her and said ""just try it."" She loved it and quickly went from tears of frustration to tears of joy when you know you have found--the one. After describing the look and feel she wanted for the wedding, Lindsey found three great choices for the bridesmaid dress, my dress and the groom's mother's dress. And the service does not stop there. They had lots of tips and tricks to make sure everyone will look great--including the guys. Appointments are not required and you never feel pressured or rushed--just welcomed. Each and every time I have been in, I still receive the same great service with a smile as does everyone who walks through the door. Cathy has transformed Formally Yours into a rare little gem just outside the perimeter waiting to help you be the bride you've always wanted to be. \r

Exceptional Experience

I had already done some shopping and came in with idea of what I wanted in a wedding dress. Just a few words from me and they found a selection to try. All of the dresses were lovely, but it was the first dress I tried that I fell in love with. There was no pressure, no hovering, just helpful advice and perfect service.

The best service, experience, selection and price in the greater Atlanta area!

After searching online trying to find the perfect wedding gown, I found a few I really liked in the Atlanta area. I contacted Formally Yours and was so impressed over the phone that I went out of my way to see them that day. No pressure, just simple consultation and great expectations were set from the beginning unlike some other places I had been. The staff has over 20 years of experience and are passionate about what they do without making you feel pressured. Even though the store was busy, I felt like they gave me just the right amount of attention to detail and consulted me along the way. What I was most impressed by was the experience they have with different designers and body types. They helped me not only pick out the perfect wedding dress, but my brides maid dresses also. The prices were extremely fair as well, which helped make the whole experience a pleasure and ultimately gave me some peace of mind. \r\rI would recommend their store to anyone looking for top designer formal dresses or wedding dresses at the best prices in Atlanta and the best customer service overall. Way to go gals, you made my whole experience superior and fun. You are always prepared to have a great party when you feel as beautiful as possible and people notice. Thanks again.
