Foundations is a nationally accredited child care center and private elementary & middle school in Kennesaw, GA, with a strong focus on integrated STEM, brain-based learning and child initiated project work. Foundations' campus includes two buildings designed from the ground up to enhance the learning environment and "Move to Learn" philosophy, with many spacious classrooms and extra learning spaces, natural outdoor exploration areas and an indoor gym with an in-ground trampoline, foam pit,.. rock wall and multi-sport court. Child care curriculum balances care and nurturing with engaging activities built around the children's interest. The school curriculum uses a balance of technology, movement, creativity and focused topic times to meet academic goals through in-depth projects and hands-on exploration.
When children are motivated naturally through their own interest, their learning is more comprehensive and concrete. Everything we do at Foundations is aimed toward developing each child's internal curiosity and motivation to learn. This is the foundational platform that will propel your child toward success and we believe it's never too early to begin the progress.
Foundations opened in 2004 and we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary of outstanding contribution to Kennesaw & Marietta GA families. Please call today to learn how your child can get the best care and education in the Atlanta area!
We are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and SACS-CASI (Southern Association of Colleges & Schools). We are also members of the Georgia Association for the Education of Young Children.
Foundations Elementary School was awarded the Cobb County Green School designation in 2009. The Green School Initiative recognized schools with an active environmental education program. The primary focus of the program is conservation, preservation, and beautification of our environment. Foundations was recognized for offering activities and projects that promote good environmental stewardship.
Both my son and daughter have attended Foundations since 12 months of age throughout their preschool years, and I have been delighted with the level of care and education that they have received.... They have had wonderful teachers who have effectively engaged them in a broad range of activities. The philosophy and approach to teaching and learning, as well as the friendly, nurturing environment at Foundations has allowed both of my children to thrive, despite their very different personalities. My daughter will be leaving to start Kindergarten this year, and we will be so sad to say goodbye to Foundations, where everyone knows her. However, we will move on feeling confident that they have indeed provided her with the very best Foundation for her Future.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
We have been part of the Foundations Family for 4 years and can not say enough good things. Our daughter went from the time she was 2- preK and is now excelling in kindergarten. My little guy... started when he was just 8 weeks old and is now almost 3.The low ratios, consistent staffing, and learning through play are just a few of the great things about Foundations. We love our school!VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »

My daughter has been attending FFTF for almost a year and a half. Now our infant son attends as well. I cannot say enough good things about the staff. The administrators and teachers are fabulous. They know every child (and most parents) by name. The staff is genuinely caring, compassionate, responsible, and hard working. They do everyrhing possible to make the kids feel comfortable, loved, and safe. I would recommend this daycare to anyone in the area :)
Foundations is the only place I would send my daughter! As a first time mom, I had so many worries but the staff and administration at FFTF has worked with me through all of my "moments" with understanding and support. My daughter has yet to have a day where she displayed any anxiety about my leaving. There are days she pushes out of my arms reaching for her teachers or just to get down and play. Another HUGE benefit of Foundations and the most important one to me is they are a breastfeeding friendly school. I have been able to breastfeed my daughter at lunch and before I take her home for the day. They have comfortable areas where we can enjoy being together for a feeding. I have never felt uncomfortable or anything but support from the staff about breastfeeding. Foundations also provides wonderful services to document everything! They send daily Discovery Reports with pictures of what they are doing in class. Now that my daughter is getting older, it is amazing to be able to look through my email and see her first days. I also registered for a Scrapbook service they provide, where I receive a scrapbook page each month including photographs from a professional photographer. Being a working mom, Foundations has saved me by taking so many pictures of my daughter and sharing them with me! Thanks to these services no moment is going to be missed!
I can't tell you enough how much joy we get with our son be apart of this school! He surprises us daily with things he has learned, and the daily discovery reports are the highlight of our day! I know that the social environment, personal teacher relationships, and creative curriculum really stimulate his creativity and excel his learning, even at such a young age. Simply put, we LOVE this school!
Low student/teacher ratios, instruction and group projects based on abilities and interests, no kids forced to sit in desks, lined up in rows, being lectured to. Instead, they sit comfortably on the floor in a circle and discuss the material and learn experientially, integrating it into other subject matter.. The classes have multi-age groups, which allows for better learning and socialization. The young ones learn how to act from the older ones and the older ones take responsibility for being role models for the younger ones. They all learn to interact well and appreciate the other age groups. The best thing of all is the incredible gym with the rock climbing wall, the trampolines and the big pit of foam blocks with the rope swinging into it. These kids start off the day with physical activity to get out their restlessness, which is not only fun for them, but helps them to sit and focus in class. This is especially helpful if your child is very energetic and not so calm and focused. They teach the kids how to think not just remember by rote. These children are so happy and so smart because things are set up to encourage that. The icing on the cake is that the price is much more affordable than most other private schools. I am so thankful I found this place for my children. They love it there! Thank you Foundations for your revolutionary vision and for your loving creation
Our 2year old loves going to school! He has developed wonderful friendships and loves his teachers. He knows how to spell his name, count to 20 in English (and up to 10 in Spanish), and can easily recite the alphabet. His favorite day of the week is Popcorn Friday when popcorn is freshly popped in the lobby for all the families to enjoy!! The staff keeps us informed on daily progress, conducts parent-teacher conferences, and has always been extremely quick to respond to any need.
Foundations For the Future is an ideal learning environment. The goal of teaching children how to think, rather than what to think has opened the door to exploration and creative learning every day. Low student to teacher ratio. Highly recommend it. Our child asked if we could move to the school and live there -- that's how much he likes it!
We were new to the area and looking for a daycare with a low teacher to child ration. From the moment I stepped into Foundations I loved it. It was a family friend that referred us, so I went to check it out. I signed our son up without my husband even stepping foot in the building. Our son was about 3 1/2 when he started and we saw a HUGE change in his abilities in regards to letter recognition, colors, and numbers (within a few months). FFTF was great about our start date, I was actively looking for employment and wanted a daycare lined. He had no problems transitioning from staying at home with Mom to FT school. He is currently in kindergarten and can read. He can do addition and subtraction in his head and even some multiplication and division. He never comes home and says his day was "boring". He is definitely getting challenged on a daily basis.
We were impressed at 1st sight of Foundations, but soon learned that all promised in our sales tour was not delivered. They boost about the Teachers staying long term at FFTF and therefore giving the children the security of a familiar face. But that is not true they just can't seem to keep Teachers. There is a constant change of staff. When problems come up, we are promised they will be corrected, but the Administration doesn't seem to care about that & leaves it to the over worked, unenthusiastic, underpaid Teachers. The only thing PREMIUM about FFTF is the price. You owe it to your child to think really hard before you sign that contract and get trapped into a situation that’s not best for you. I urge you to look somewhere else -- that’s more flexible and truly cares about kids and not just the almighty dollar. Lastly, the negative reviews I’ve read are accurate. The positive reviews to some extent are also accurate particularly for those who’ve been there for < 1year. Give it time, it won’t be long before they too know the truth.
Dear Parent, I know you posted this review anonymously, but please consider contacting me directly to discuss your concerns. I will do my best to address them in my response, but I could give you more specific answers if I had the opportunity to speak with you directly which is usually how we handle parent questions and concerns. For instance, you said “there is a constant changing of staff.” There is no class in our school where this is an accurate statement. Since I do not know which class you were in, I can only address this with our average statistics from this school year: 82% of our teachers have been here over a year, with 56% of those having been here for 3 or more years. When we do have an open position, we may rotate through several candidates to find one that best fits in with the children, teachers, and parents of that classroom. Taking the extra time to find the best fit is another way we decrease teacher turnover in the long run, and once we do find the right fit, the vast majority of our teachers stay.
In your review, you urged others to “look somewhere else that… truly cares about kids and not just the almighty dollar.” I know that many people assume that higher tuition means higher profits for us, but from the day we opened our doors, the average annual income of the owners is only slightly higher than the average annual income of a teacher employed here. Our tuition has not increased proportionally to the additional expenses incurred by our lower child to teacher ratios and higher teacher pay rates. Instead, we choose to make very little profit in order to keep tuition as low as possible. We do this because we more than just care for this school: it is our lifelong passion. I hope you will give me the opportunity in the future to meet with you to address your concerns, because our goal is always to provide the highest quality we possibly can. Sincerely, Lynn McKinnon.
Our son has been going to FFTF for over 3 years and he enters Pre-k in the Fall. He has always loved going to school and has been with the same group of friends for the entire time. The class is far ahead of other children his age as they are already writing thier names, counting to 20 and learning thier letters. The focus on art is amazing and the environment promotes creativity. We recently put our 1 year old daughter in FFTF and she is thriving as well. One of my favorite things about Foundations is the environment. The building is off the beaten path but located right in between West Marietta and Kennesaw. The building has an industrial yet creative feel and it's a far cry from institutional feeling like traditional child care facilities. We love Foundations and feel there is no better place for our kids.
Perhaps the best compliment I can pay this school is to say how difficult it has been to find another school of the same caliber. My 2 1/2 year old daughter has been enrolled here since she was 4 months old. Due to a job transfer, I must find an intown school closer to home. The facility, faculty, student-teacher ratios, and focus on child development are better than that of any of the schools I've visited in Buckhead, including several more expensive schools. During a recent visit to our pediatrician, the doctor commented on my daughter's "exceptional" verbal skills and her sweet disposition. As much as my wife and I would like to take credit for this, we must acknowledge the people with whom she spends more waking hours than she does with us -- an extended family, indeed. I highly recommend FFTF to all busy working parents that want the best for their children.
We switched from another daycare nearby because we were looking for a great learning environment where our son could thrive. We found that and so much more at Foundations. The staff is extremely friendly and communicative. The daily updates are wonderful. Our son has excelled in their program. We also love the well balanced meals the children receive. A definate improvement from the PB&J most daycares serve. I was sad to read what I can only call the bitter ramblings of a mom that clearly doesn't appreciate the remarkable program Foundations offers. We have been to other daycares. Foundations is by far the best.
What a difference a great school has in a child's life. I have a child(ren) that attend Foundations for the Future and they are amazingly happy, and secure in their environment. They are excited to go to school each morning. The teachers are amazing and have firsthand knowledge of each child. The administrative staff is organized, focused and very personable. We are greeted each morning by name with a warm wonderful smile by each and every teacher. There is no way to measure the impact this fantastic school will have in my children's lives. Thank you for all you do and for all the many ways you truly bring the children, teachers and parents together for the common goal of educating and loving each child individually.
My daughter is in their 2 year old program now. She will not be returning once the term is up at end of year. She has only been in attending the school since late July. I feel as parents we've horribly failed her and believed the hype. The front lobby is amazing but it stops after that. The owner is a liar with zero personality. I could go on and on about the problems we've had in such a short period of time. My daughter attended another school in Cherokee county previously for over a year and never had a single complaint. We moved so she had to change schools. What a mistake. I'm currently interviewing other schools in the area and will not renew for the new term next year.
I always appreciate parents’ feedback, because it is communication. Communication is essential in any relationship, but especially in the very personal partnership that occurs between a school and a family. Foundations has been nationally accredited by NAEYC since 2005, and this month we were recognized as one of the top NAEYC centers in the nation, earning a 98% average ranking for quality. One of the reasons we are able to achieve this high quality standard is the strong partnership agreement that our families commit to when they enroll. Parents agree to address any challenges or concerns that do arise with the administrative team until a satisfactory resolution is reached for all parties. Many times we can gather and present information to clarify something, or if there is an issue, we can take immediate action to correct and resolve it. Without open communication from parents, the relationship between school and family quickly deteriorates. We have two on-site owners in addition to our Communications Director and Child Care Director available to address concerns. Your continued refusal to meet with any admin to work through your concerns left us no choice but to have to end your child’s enrollment. This is not a desired outcome, but we stand firmly by our belief that the full benefit of our program can only come with partnership with us. I encourage any prospective family to speak with other Foundations families and teachers regarding their experiences at our school. The families that attend our school make the choice to do so because they are passionate about their children and their care and education, and they share these experiences freely. (Our average enrollment length for a family is about three years, so chances are that the person you talk to should be able to talk about their experience at a variety of ages and stages.) Sincerely, Lynn McKinnon, Head of School, LynnM@foundationscorp.com.
