What an impact !!!!
What a difference a great school has in a child's life. I have a child(ren) that attend Foundations for the Future and they are amazingly happy, and secure in their environment. They are excited to go to school each morning. The teachers are amazing and have firsthand knowledge of each child. The administrative staff is organized, focused and very personable. We are greeted each morning by name with a warm wonderful smile by each and every teacher. There is no way to measure the impact this fantastic school will have in my children's lives. Thank you for all you do and for all the many ways you truly bring the children, teachers and parents together for the common goal of educating and loving each child individually.

Terrible
My daughter is in their 2 year old program now. She will not be returning once the term is up at end of year. She has only been in attending the school since late July. I feel as parents we've horribly failed her and believed the hype. The front lobby is amazing but it stops after that. The owner is a liar with zero personality. I could go on and on about the problems we've had in such a short period of time. My daughter attended another school in Cherokee county previously for over a year and never had a single complaint. We moved so she had to change schools. What a mistake. I'm currently interviewing other schools in the area and will not renew for the new term next year.

Mrs. C,
I always appreciate parents’ feedback, because it is communication. Communication is essential in any relationship, but especially in the very personal partnership that occurs between a school and a family. Foundations has been nationally accredited by NAEYC since 2005, and this month we were recognized as one of the top NAEYC centers in the nation, earning a 98% average ranking for quality. One of the reasons we are able to achieve this high quality standard is the strong partnership agreement that our families commit to when they enroll. Parents agree to address any challenges or concerns that do arise with the administrative team until a satisfactory resolution is reached for all parties. Many times we can gather and present information to clarify something, or if there is an issue, we can take immediate action to correct and resolve it. Without open communication from parents, the relationship between school and family quickly deteriorates. We have two on-site owners in addition to our Communications Director and Child Care Director available to address concerns. Your continued refusal to meet with any admin to work through your concerns left us no choice but to have to end your child’s enrollment. This is not a desired outcome, but we stand firmly by our belief that the full benefit of our program can only come with partnership with us. I encourage any prospective family to speak with other Foundations families and teachers regarding their experiences at our school. The families that attend our school make the choice to do so because they are passionate about their children and their care and education, and they share these experiences freely. (Our average enrollment length for a family is about three years, so chances are that the person you talk to should be able to talk about their experience at a variety of ages and stages.) Sincerely, Lynn McKinnon, Head of School, LynnM@foundationscorp.com.

So happy to discover this school!
My 18 month daughter and 4 yr old son recently began attending Foundations for the Future! I could not be more impressed with the teachers, administrators, curriculum, etc. I wish I had discovered this school several years ago. I will send both of my children to Foundations for elementary school. I am so impressed (and continue to be every day). Best of all, I know my children are safe and happy.

LOVE this school
We have been a Foundations family for 3 years now and we love this school! From the moment we entered the building for the first time, I was overwhelmed with the feeling that we were home. The staff is friendly and genuinely cares about my children and the teachers are fantastic. We get daily discovery reports via email that show/tell us what the kids were learning - and they are even able to send these emails to my children's grandparents! The teachers are always available to talk to my husband or myself every morning and twice a year we actually have parent/teacher conferences. Both of my children have learned so much in the 3 years we have been at Foundations and are healthy, happy and thriving. As a parent I couldn't ask for anything more in a school.

Not All That It's Cracked Up To Be
Keep in mind Foundations offers a free shirt for any parents who write a review on Kudzu (this one will not qualify)so don't think the reviews on here are objective.

One of the biggest disappointments for us has been the high amount of teacher turnover. We were told that the teachers often stay with the children as they change classrooms. Unfortunately, the teachers can't even seem to stay the whole year. We're constantly reminded that the high fees (~250/wk) are to retain the best talent, yet they can't even keep the same teachers.

The quality and experience level of the teachers is variable. There's a mixture of college students full-time teachers. Unfortunately, we just haven't seen a teacher that seems really passionate about what they're doing and that's a shame.

Overall they do a good job selling the sizzle without the steak. For example, they boast about the home cooked meals, but in October one weekly lunch menu (Monday-Friday) was: Homemade Mac & Cheese, 3-Cheese Tortilini, Cheeseburgers, Flatbread Cheese Pizza, Scallop Potatoes w/Ham. Seriously - is that much cheese necessary??

I listed some of the negatives because they are underpresented on Kudzu and it's important to see the whole picture. I will say the facilities are nice, and our daughter seems to like it. However, the costs and the overall quality don't line up. We're new to the area, so we can't go to our old daycare, but I do believe there are better choices.

We are sorry to hear that you don’t feel like your expectations are being met at Foundations. Being a current parent, we invite you to meet with us in order to alleviate these frustrations. As one of the two on-site owners,we coordinate our schedules to make sure that one owner is generally available from morning to evening, with an open door policy.

We strive to maintain the highest quality and longevity in our teaching staff, but there are occasions, out of our control, when teachers do have to leave the school. In these cases we do everything we can to ease the transition for the children and families and make sure that the new teacher is well trained and works in harmony with the current teacher in the classroom. Our average length of employment for our Mentor teachers is over three years at Foundations. Considering we have only been open for seven years and at full staff only for four years, this is a very high retention rate.

In regards to the quality and experience level of our teachers, we have about 80% of our teaching staff who have their Associates, Bachelors or Masters Degrees. This is well above the standard of other schools in the area. Many of our teachers are furthering their education, and are here at Foundations because they do have a passion for working with young children and choose our school for the way that we implement that education.

We are currently (in April/May 2011) in the process of having our menus certified by a licensed dietitian. Here is a more typical lunch week, taken from a recent March menu: M-Veggie Lasagna Bake, T-Sweet & Sour Chicken, W-Beef & Cheese Enchiladas, Th-Sausage Omelets, F-Creamy Chicken & Pasta Bake. Cheese is an important vegetarian source of protein that is often a great choice for children who may be picky about eating other sources of protein. We are always striving to improve our menus, and the dietitian we are working with is helping us incorporate other sources of kid-friendly vegetarian proteins, like quinoa and lentils.
While we do encourage parents to review our school on Kudzu, we do not make any stipulations on the content of that review. We welcome candid comments about their experiences.
