Rude Owner, Bad Service, 2/14/2012

We eat there regularly. But tonight is the last time! My wife says 'let's use Frankie's, since I have a coupon'. I'm not one to consider Valentine's Day a Holiday. If you have to work, it's not a... Holiday. To give them the benefit of the doubt I called ahead for take-out and ask the hostess if coupons are acceptable on Valentines Day. She said 'Yes, as long as it's the buy 1 pizza get 1 Free coupon' and it would be ready in 15 minutes. I take my 5 year old with me, drive 15 minutes one way, and wait 5 minutes before a very abrupt lady finally speaks to me. When I handed her my coupon she has a fit about it in front of other customers who piled up behind me. We don't take these on Holidays, she says. I said, I called ahead and the gal said you do. 'No we don't take them, and there's a sign on the door!' - She said. I told her she needs to train her staff. And she rants about it a few more times out loud and yells at one of the waiters who tries to discuss it with her. My son is just looking at her like horns grew out of her head. I'm thinking she's crazy and the looks on the faces of the people behind me tells me they were thinking the same thing. Finally she buckles which is good b/c I was about to walk. So we wait another 10 minutes and noone calls my name, I get impatient and ask the cook if my pizzas ready and tell him my name. They were packaged in the back the whole time and they never bothered to give them to me!! By the time I get home the quality was poor!

Good food fast

Frankie's isn't fine dining. Knowing that we love to eat there once a week. We get service with a smile and the food comes out fast. I've read the reviews about the owner/manager and agree she can seem mean, but she always says hi to us when we walk in and it is up to her to make sure things run smoothly. I usually have a coupon, but have been eating there for years with our without one. The food is decent and the rolls are excellent! We really love the pizza!

Great Food

I was VERY skeptical about trying this place, especially after reading the previous 19 comments but took a chance based on the food comments alone. First, let me tell you that the food is really good. My wife and I both arrived for the early bird specials and had pasta dishes which we both enjoyed. The only thing we didn't like was that we felt rushed through the soup, salad and garlic rolls. It appeared that they were trying to avoid giving us more by bringing out our main meals before we were even half way done touching our salads (didn't even get to the small bowl of soup). Second, a lot of folks have commented about the "owner/manager". It wasn't hard to spot her walking back and forth in the restaurant with a look of discontent. We had no interaction with her but I did hear her clearly tell 2 of her wait staff about the proper way to set the tables. I do think this was unprofessional to do in front of customers, but based on what everyone else has observed, seems like she does this kind of thing all the time. I can only hope that she reads all these comments and takes them seriously. We overheard the folks at the next table talking about how great the pizza was. We'll probably be back just to try it, but probably won't be back for the pasta dishes. In my opinion, Scalini's is comparably priced but their salad and garlic rolls are MUCH better (pasta is about the same), plus you don't get rushed through it.

NOT accepting their own coupons

The food was fine. The service good, but the female Owner wouldn't accept their own "Buy one get one free" coupon because it was Fathers Day and she regarded that as a holiday! That's new to me as it wasn't Thanksgiving, Christmas, July 4th, Labor day etc. Fathers day is not a holiday! It's a day of recognition. Haven't been and won't be back again. She needs a lesson in salesmanship.

What an attitude!

I went in Frankie's for some food. It is customary for me to ask to see the health rating upon entering any eating establishment when I go someplace new or haven't visited for quite some time. Technically, you should not have to ask to see the sign as it should be displayed within plain site of the entrance per state law. When I asked where it was the woman gave me the most ridiculous attitude. They had a state health rating but it was not visible at all from the entrance to the restaurant. Upon being sat at a table I found her just glaring at me from the hostess stand as if I had done the most evil thing ever - just asking to see the state mandated health rating! At that point I got up and left before placing an order. I will not go back.

The rolls are off the chain!!

I have been to Frankies many times and have always had great food and excellent service. The rolls are more addictive than crack and their lasagna is awesome! My wife used to go there just for their Terramazu (did I spell that right?) The restaurant feels like a family run place and not some everyday food chain. If you like Italian food than you are gonna love this place.

Need to Get The Owner/Manager Out of There

I too have had experience with the lady that owns the place, and she's the biggest detriment to the restaurant's success. I didn't deal with her directly, but I watched her berating several members of her waitstaff within earshot of the customers, and it made for a very uncomfortable dining experience. My waiter was great, so I couldn't figure out what the fuss was. Food is great, and the atmosphere is very good, although I find the booths a little tight. Tell the owner to stay home and let someone else run the show!

Good food but they're not too organized

The food here is very good but the waitresses and waiters are not always on top of things. It's very noisy too.

Ruined the day !!

My wife, mother-in-law & daughters stopped in for lunch on the way to a play at the Fox. After ordering, an owner? / manager noticed my youngest was eating her chicken nuggets from a nearby Wendys (she doesn't like Italian food) & pitched a fit and refused to let her eat food from another restaurant in theirs! As she was only 5 yrs. old, that presented a problem. They had no choice but to leave & the owner / manager then tried to charge them for tea, rolls & salad (brought to table, but not completely consumed). They were embarrassed & humiliated and my daughter was crying! That was our last visit to Frankie's..........

Bad Management

I haven't been there before.. so decided to try out a coupon. We were told right before the food was delivered that we could not use the coupon. We decided to only take one dish and split it since we were not able to use the coupon. So they charged us 5.95 for a side salad and even though we did not like the tea, we were charged for it anyway. They only have saccharine as sweetener. The manager avoided our table and seemed to try to get the most cash out of us, rather than a repeat customer. I will NEVER return to this establishment. They give other italian restaurants a BAD NAME. This is awful New York City push-and-shove mentality right here on Canton Road. If you like to be treated like crap, then head on over!

Let me give you a tip

First off the service was pretty good. The food was bland not alot of Italian tasty goodness you would expect. The thing that really got me was they added in a tip with the bill. For a large party I understand but there was only two of us and the bill was for under 30$. The last thing is it was over 3$ for sweet tea, are you kidding me.

Pretty Good

This place is pretty good. The pizza can be greasy but I love the pasta dishes. The rolls and salad are excellent - probably my favorite part! I don't think that the prices are any cheaper than other Italian places so I'm not going to rave about how reasonable this place is. It cost my family of four $50 to eat our late meal and that was with a free entree coupon (and no, we didn't have any alcohol!). I would recommend this place if you're looking for a non-chain Italian food option.
