Happy Boarder, 5/07/2012

My experience at GBs has been great. I have been on full board here for more than four years now. At GBs I have the luxury of knowing that my horse will be well cared for and fed if I am gone one... day or for weeks. The caretaker and assistants are conscientious and friendly. The owners of GBs maintain the property and consistently make repairs and improvements when needed. GBs has a friendly atmosphere and it is always a pleasure to be there. There is a good instructor at GBs that will help you with routine lessons, or on an as needed basis if you need help with something. She also welcomes outside trainers for those who are already working with a specific trainer. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate GB Stables a 12.

happy mare, 4/30/2012

My grown daughters and I all have a horse at GB's and we love it there! The people are great! They are so friendly even to new boarders coming in. The barn itself is the best $ can buy and the board... is still affordable! The care is the best and they have both full and partial board or anything in between that might you might need. Some owners trial ride while others show or some just like to hang out with their horse. so there is something for everyone!

Good Value for the Price

I boarded at GB's for 6 months. The Great: The facilities include a large barn, pasture, riding arena, and trails. The stalls are spacious and safe. The lockers are shared between boarders, but are large enough to do so. The fencing is decent. Yes, there is chain link and electric, and no, it is not all 4-board wood fencing like at a top-dollar facility, but it is cared for and safe. The arena is good enough for most any discipline. The trails are good as well. The horses are in good health and happy. Caretakers pick the stalls daily and work with whatever feed/supplements your horse needs. The Not-So-Good GB's does have a lot of land. From what I can tell, a lot of that is lake and trails. There IS pasture, but if you are looking for all-day every-day GRASS, this is not the right place for you. Groups of horses are rotated onto the grass. Horses that are in dirt paddocks are given supplemental hay (which is a good thing!). It can be hard to fit in at GB's, as a rider or a boarder. This is true of every barn. Sometimes constructive criticism or doing something differently can be met with discouraging words. This is also true of every barn. Every barn has its own culture. My advice: do not turn your nose up at GB's. Overall the horses receive wonderful care and the people are pleasant and welcoming. If you see and like the facilities, then I encourage you to go to some of their regularly occurring events and get to know the people.

used to board at GB

I moved from GB about 3 years ago. I must say it was a very friendly atmosphere. I moved to go to a barn that did alot more shows. I will say Chad, the owner, was a great person and wanted to genuinly meet the needs of the boarders and has greatly improved the facility over the years. He works hard on getting everyone together for trail rides and fun. Great place and for sure blessed by God.

Outstanding Individual Attention For My Horse

I've had my horse boarded at GB Stables for almost a year now and have been continually impressed with the care and attention that is provided. The owner Chad is omnipresent, always improving the facility for the betterment of all. Jessy is a very hands on manager, very attuned to the individual needs of all her charges. The new barn is fantastic! The clientelle are friendly and courteous, always willing to lend a hand. I travel alot now and have great confidence that my trusted steed Pruitt will be well cared for.

Horse Heaven

I absolutely love GBs stables. It is set on a beautiful tract of land & well maintained by people who love the land and horses. Jessie Sodova is an awesome riding lesson instructor & has given my daughter & I so much riding confidence and boosted our skills. I love this place and think it would be an ideal place to board-surrounded by horse lovers in an ideal setting. The horses all seem very happy and content and the people are friendly and diverse. I love that the owner's choose to keep it as a beautiful horse farm for the public rather than sell it off for money.

GB's Stables

As far as a review for GB's Stables, I could never have asked for a better place to board my adopted horse. I have been boarding my horse for two years at GB's and have seen my horse go from being underweight and neglected from many unstable environments in so called "show barns", to mentally and physically healthy and happy. I owe his health and happiness to GB's and the care that he is given there. This barn is definately a beautiful, friendly, safe, caring and organized home to your horse. Where else could my horse be 20 miles from the city in 150 plus sunbathing in the sun, eating grass and taking dips in the lake? I can't think of many. If you have $1,000 a month to spend on board, I know Chastain Park has a nice long waiting list. I wonder what their reviews are??

love GB'S

We are new horse owners and have been at GB'S a few months. We've had nothing but good experiences there. Any time we've had a concern it has always been addressed by the owner in a timely and professional manner. Our caretaker/trainer is the best and has gone above and beyond for us. The barns are older, but are clean and maintained. There is plenty of room to ride which is unusual so close to the city. We love the friendly atmosphere and that is one of the reasons we chose GB'S.

improvement continues at GB's

I have been around these stables since 1979 and have watched them grow and change since then. The improvements made in the last 2 years alone are amazing, the management has put forth an effort to make it a comfortable and affordable place that they should be proud of. Obviously the people who submitted the bad reviews are not real horse people - horses fighting? kids around the barn? If they want a trophy instead of a real animal they should stick to the stuffed variety!

Love the place

I spent a lot of time at this stable last summer and I miss being there. Everybody was very friendly to me and the horses are outside most of the day and not only in the stable like in many other places. I would bring my horse there anytime without any concern.

Happy Horses

I have had my horse at this facility for nearly four years and the place has made leaps and bounds with improvements and quality. My horse seams happy to be at a calm family oriented facility with plenty of love and attention from the boarders and friends that stop by to visit. Our facility is tranquil with its calming lake and trails, yet exiting and educating with our round pen and activity in the arena. I believe it is a very diverse yet friendly place for both horse and human!

Overcrowded, unsafe and poorly managed

Horses are placed together in paddocks irregardless of their compatibility and this, combined with overcrowded conditions, dangerous fencing, high turnover and no isolation for sick animals is a recipe for tragedy. GB's has more than its share of barn drama, most of which is precipitated by the owner. The owner/manager is inexperienced in horse care, unconcerned about horse safety and is extremely volatile and rude to boarders who question his judgement. Full board is inconsistent at best, and chores are often handed off to inexperienced substitutes, leaving horses unfed, or in their stalls until noon. Because there are so many horses, and this is a partial care stable with a diverse clientele, there are some abusive and neglectful situations that will break your heart. My advice: if you care at all about the welfare of your horse, look elsewhere. There are some great alternatives in the area.

GB's Stables replied on 03-30-2007

Thank you so much for your posting. It is so important that people see how the facilities used to be & how much it has improved. We have a wide variety of paddocks (chain link, field, & electric) that allow the horses to remain in a safe & happy environment. We have gelding, mare, docile, aggressive, foaling, mixed, & yearling paddocks. The only drama that I am aware of are these postings & I know that if I were to leave these alone they would disappear, but I feel I should respond so everyone knows what kind of facility we have. As for management, I am always open to constructive criticism, ideas, & complaints. We are here for the equine community; therefore if we are not meeting the needs of them there is a problem. As for experience, I am by no means a vet or a trainer, but I have worked with horses all my life & have learned a lot since I took over when I was just 18 years old. The stable was declining & I had a lot to learn. Fortunately I have & will continue to learn as we continue to improve the stable. Its a blessing that there are many other places to board horses & yet people still relay on us. The Lord has blessed us with this great place & we feel we should in turn put the blessings out on the community & most of all the horses because we like horseygirl have our heart with the horses. I have three great caretakers who work on the condition that horses are to be fed & let out by 9:00 am each & every day. The horse care is the most important part of GBs because any stable not offering superior care should be shut down. Do note that our state inspection is annually met with outstanding scores. Whether full or partial board, horses must be fed grain & hay twice a day & stalls are to be picked daily. I encourage you to see the horses, how healthy they are, & that they are free of injury & abuse. Our paddock system works great & the fencing we have is even better. Over $20k was spent in 2006 rebuilding 2 paddocks. In coordination with DNR, engineers, farriers, & vets we were able to build pens that were best for the horses. The main thing that people need to realize is that we arent & are not trying to be a show barn, but instead a safe, fun, & healthy place to enjoy your horses. I encourage the writer of this posting for the horses sake contact me directly to let me know of any problems they are aware of. This forum has been a great way for me to communicate to the public the improvements & the huge strides that we have made recently & continue to make. This may push me to get a website & help everyone see through pictures, newsletters, & testimonies how the stable is operated. Again anyone please feel free to contact me, so I can address any concerns you may have & help you see what a great establishment we have because of the facilities, horses, & people. Trails, lake, arena, great easy-going atmosphere!

Great stable close in to town. Really a diamond in the rough to find a family-run establishment with so much land, yet still so close to everything. Rarely can you find a barn that has an arena, a round pen, and also enough trails to keep you occupied for a while. Definitely a pleasure barn, though some of us get a wild hair now and then and go to a show. Lots of organized trail rides off site. More adults than children, though everyone is welcome. Overall a very good and fun group. The barns are older but kept in good shape. In the last year alone there have been a ton of improvements. Most importantly, the horses are fat and happy. My horse can run around under the trees and then go roll on the lake shore! What a life!

Loved being at GB's

I miss being at GB's so much. I had a horse for three years their, but I had to sell it when I moved away. Now that I am back in Atlanta, I come by the stables regularly to see the horses and everyone there. It is amazing how many improvements have been made over the time I have been gone. I want to get another horse, so hopefully their will be room when I get some $$$$ so I can board their again. I can't believe some of the things that person wrote in the other posting. Some people just hate the world, you know. The other boarders and the management really do care and I know my little guy loved being at GB's. I WISH I HAD ANOTHER HORSE!!!!! :)

WORST stable I have seen

It is clear upon arrival at GB's Stable that the owner does not care about the horses. The paddocks are in extremely poor condition and are over-crowded. I saw horses fighting and children running through paddocks scaring the horses to death. There is absolutely nothing quality about this facility or about the way that the people or the horses are treated. I was there a month ago and still can't get the horrible thoughts out of my head. Stay as far away as you can from GB's Stable. There are plenty of other places to board your horse or to take lessons.

GB's Stables replied on 03-30-2007

I write as the owner of the facilities. I apologize for the informality, but space is limited. I find it sad that this person has such ill will towards GBs. It is sad that the world has people who just hate the world. Fortunately we have a record that is far from what she says. As all know people are far more likely slander a business if they are upset than compliment one when they are happy. This is 1 of those cases, so I would like to respond to the comments. This property is a service to the community a legacy of my family. The lands monetary value is far more than the income from keeping it, but we keep it because we love it & it brings so many people & animals joy. Our cookouts at the property bring out the likes of our State Agr Commsr (who oversees all stables & equine in the state), our Congressman, & a long list of other guests who wouldnt enter an area that wasnt warm, clean, & safe. There are boarders who have stables closer to their home & most could afford the show barns, but they choose to stay because this is where they want to be. The posting did state that there were plenty of other places to board, so why do so many choose GBs? I have boarders who have been here for over 15yrs & know they can go elsewhere, but dont. We have pleasure riders with some emphasis on showing. The riding style is 50/50 Eng/West. Our horses are as diverse as our boarders. A great asset to our business is the atmosphere the property sets & the people that are here daily. These people love the facilities, expert care, & relaxed family atmosphere. Our trail rides, group outings, bbqs, & overall concern for our equestrian friends is a testimony to GBs. A stronger testimony is of boarders who move away because of jobs & came back to GBs when they move back. Ive had people who lived as far away as Dallas & 5 Points who made the trek here because of their satisfaction. We are in Smyrna on one of the largest land tracts in Cobb (130 acres) with 3 barns, pasture, & 10 paddocks. We offer partial board & full board. The caretakers have been with me for 1, 3, & 5 years. We have installed a new roof on the front barn & within the week will be finished repainting & repairing the wood and hanging new doors & gates. This barn has 6 stalls (includes a foaling stall). Our other 2 barns have tack rooms and 41 stalls. The lower barn has new stalls & new tack rooms. Our pasture will soon reopen for the season. Each & every day (or night if you prefer) your horses will be outside, unless the weather is bad or you need them in. We have 2 miles of riding trails, riding arena, lunging pen, trailer parking,& many other amenities. Because of space I must close, but since you dont know me, you have to be the judge of what is best for your horse & I hope that you will allow us to help you with that. This is our gift to the community & no one takes more pride in its standing than my family & I. We hope to hear from you soon. Chad Williams tw5@bellsouth.net
