My daughter attended this school for three years now and has a lot of fun. The Owner is very professional and my daughter learned a lot from her. I definitely would recommend the dance studio if your child like to dance and want to take dance lessons.

GSPA is a fabulous studio. If you want your child to get the best dance training, you will take him/her to this studio. I started taking classes there when I decided that I wanted to become a professional dancer, at 21 years old. I had received mediocre training growing up and had a lot of catching up to do. Perry James took me through the syllabi that she uses with all her students and built my technique from the ground up. I am now 25 and in a professional dance company in Atlanta, Phase 1 Contemporary. I owe any success I have as a dancer to the training I received at GSPA. Other great things about the studio: 1. Students are placed in classes based on their ability level and are taught proper dance technique. 2. Students do age appropriate dances and do not wear inappropriate costumes for performances. 3. Classes are not so large that your child gets lost in the crowd. 4. Students learn dance terminology (how to do, say and spell steps). I love this studio!

I went to this studio for about a year and a half. The teachers were nice and the owner was very charismatic. Well after getting sick of the disorder and lack of any organization I switched studios. I found out that I was REALLY behind. I was about twelve at the time and couldn't do a pique (an extremely basic step). It took me a year of extra classes, private lessons, and sheer determination to catch up to the rest of the girls. I am glad to say I am now on level with the other students and choreographers actually notice me thanks to my awesome new studio. I will say that she had one or two great teachers working there that taught me what they could considering the owner's held back syllabus. If you just want to go here to be with friends just know you aren't getting real dance training. The teachers were nice and everything but if I could go back I would have never gone to Georgia School of Performing Arts.

I have taken all kinds of classes at Georgia School of Performing Arts for several years now, everything from ballet to hip hop to acting. I have learned a great deal of technique and knowledge of the arts. The teachers are excellent!

We love the school! Our family has tried other dance programs and we've found they focus a lot on "flair" but not on technique. We switched to GSPA about three years ago and only regret not doing it sooner. Our school uses a curriculum from the Royal Academy of Ballet. The instructor is certified by ABT and attends regular continuing education classes every year. Our students are evaluated by an outside instructor who objectively measures their ability and helps the regular instructor decide if the student is ready to advance to the next level. Small class sizes ensures that no one gets lost. Also, there is no pressure for the students to participate in competition - unlike many dance schools I'm familiar with. Students proceed at their own pace. My daughter wants to major study dance in college in a few years. I feel extremely confident that the instruction she receive at GSPA will help her reach that goal.
My daughters have all taken classes here for several years. Students are taught using ABT curriculum which is the standard being presented and rolled out to many universities. The owner/instructor is only 1 of 11 ABT certified instructors in the state of Georgia! (ABT is America's National Ballet CompanyŽ and brings the highest quality dance and dancers to audiences across the globe.) For the dance classes there are different levels and age groups, NOT mixed as dancer4jesus reviewed. Many students who have come from other Douglas County "dance" schools have found that they were not on level and have had to work hard to try to catch up with the ABT standards. Unfortunately, not having started with ABT instruction has affected their ability to get into dance programs at universities or even be at the same level as other students their age. I cannot recommend this school highly enough. My daughters are not put up on pointe too soon and the instructor is very encouraging. Small class sizes ensure each child gets individual feedback which is crucial for dance success. At recitals, children are not made to wear sexually provocative clothing nor are their dance routines sexualized - just straight up proper dancing and dance techniques.
This has been the best experience my daughter has ever had! The dance instructors are extremely knowledgable and caring. If you are interested in learning how to really dance correctly, this is the place to go. Don't waste your time and money going anywhere else because you will not learn the techniques you need to be successful. Very few places in Georgia offer true training and this is definitely one of those places!!
This is an excellent studio with a strong Royal Academy Syllabus. Something so many in fact most dance schools lack! Students are placed by their dance level according to skill. The classes are a reasonable size and the training is approached with the utmost care. The staff also attend continueing education in their field over the summer at accredited institutions such as the American Ballet Accreditation for teachers.

The People were really nice, but they mixed the ages like 10 year olds with 15 year olds.

Thank you for posting a review. We are happy to hear all views on the school. I'm not sure when you came, but we run our classes by age range; 3-4yrs, 5-8yrs, 9-12yrs, 13-18yrs and Adult, for all the dance classes. The Acting and Musical Theatre classes have wider age ranges (7-12yrs and 13-18yrs) because it is important for students to learn to work with varying age groups in these genres. Most importantly we are committed to giving students a thorough grounding in technique as well as performance, and providing a top quality training in the theatre arts.
