Update: I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and that got his attention. The carpenter came out and repaired the major issues with the boards. So much of this could have been avoided if Kirk had just responded instead of ignoring our calls and emails.

Original review: Kirk talked us out of using engineered lumber because he was going to use kiln dried, highest quality wood which wouldn't warp or shrink and would be fine grain and sturdy. The carpenter, John, was very nice showed up on time and worked hard. When the wood was delivered, he noticed there were low quality boards and went and picked up better lumber to replace the visibly poor quality wood. Well the deck has been finished since late May and some of the wood flooring has shrunk and left large gaps and other pieces have warped so much we had to cut down the gate to get it to close. We have called Kirk several times and he's promised to come out with his "lumber guy" and look at it, but he has yet to show up. We call him every couple of weeks and he promised to come out, but hasn't done so yet. I think he's counting on us giving up and not bothering him and moving on.

Kirk Blackmon signed a contract on April 17, 2010, to add a leak-proof floor to my deck to be started no later than May 22, 2010, and completed no later than June 5, 2010. He further verbally promised that in the course of the work, his workers would keep the premises clean, keep their appointments, and treat my family and property with respect. Mr. Blackmon has failed in every respect to honor each and every promise. His workers have incorrectly installed flooring three times (even though he was provided with correct instructions by the material manufacturers) resulting in numerous substantial leaks. His workers have left trash in several piles in the yard resulting in large patches of grass being killed. They told me he didn't want to pay the $25 dump fee until all the trash could be taken at once, so they relocated the piles resulting in more large patches of grass being killed. In July, I requested that Mr. Blackmon use a professional floor installer (whose name I provided) to prepare the floor for finishing, but Mr. Blackmon refused. Mr. Blackmon's workers have never kept an appointment, and have never called to say they would they would not show up (for days).
