Best African Dance Classes
Your Friday nights and Sunday afternoons will never be the same again! When it was suggested I attend an African dance class at a local gym, I had no idea what I was in store for. Now, nearly 10 years later, I rarely miss a class. With live drumming accompanying the students' movements, it's not unfamiliar to hear either the instructor and/ or musicians burst into a song in the original native language. While most classes feature traditional West African dances, Giwayen Mata's repretoire is quite vast and have also included East and South African as well as Caribbean moves and rhythyms. Here, you will also learn a brief history about the regions and ethnic groups where these dances originated. The classes accommodates all levels of dancers, from beginner to advanced. Look for Giwayen Mata on Fridays @ Metro Fitness on Metropolitan Ave in SW Atlanta and on Sundays @ Dance 411 Studios on Moreland Ave. You'll be glad you did!
