My wife and I just got back from our first trip to Las Vegas; the city was wonderful, but the Gold Coast left something to be desired. The rooms are pretty cheap, but unfortunately the hotel is doing a remodel and it's intrusively loud. \r\rThe biggest complaint about the remodel is the noise. It is completely inescapable if you spend any time in your room. Starting at 9 AM on both Saturday and Sunday we were treated to what sounded like a cabinet maker's workshop right next to our room: pounding hammers that shook our walls, saws and drills that were so loud they sounded like they were about to come through the headboard of our bed. This made any kind of sleeping in or daytime naps absolutely impossible. What's the use of vacationing in a city that is world-renowned for it's nightlife when you are absolutely too zonked out from lack of sleep from the day before? \rThe front desk staff initially told me that the only thing they could do for us was to downgrade our room to move us away from the noise, they however eventually moved us into an acceptable room. I got the impression from the first front desk clerk had heard my same complaint from a lot of other people that day and didn't feel like going out of her way for us. I was also a bit disappointed to be stonewalled twice while trying to find a manager to speak to, but eventually everything was resolved to our satisfaction. \r\rOn the good side of things, the casino had a lot to do for someone new to gambling that didn't involve a ton of money. I never had so much fun losing a couple hundred bucks before. With the exception of one front desk clerk, the staff was very friendly. The diner type cafe next to the buffet served some delicious and very reasonably-priced food. The room itself was very reasonably priced, and the Deluxe rooms are pretty hip looking. And best of all it's quite conveniently located to explore the rest of the city. \rI'd be willing to give it another shot, just not until the remodel is over.

This place has the cheapest rooms for the quality you get. The hotel isn't all sparkley and glamorous, but it's clean and friendly. The only complaint I had was the air conditioner in our room. It was a wall unit and it made the air smell stale. The bathroom was small, but they do have room service. I guess this would be the next step up from a motel. Better security, free parking. This place is right next to the Rio, so my friend and I walked next door a few times to get that big casino feel (the Rio is a fun place). And they give you a coupon book when you check in- free drinks, free ice cream, free casino plays.

Room was clean and well maintained as was rest of hotel. Dealers in casino were very personable and made gambling experience very enjoyable. Resteraunts were not world class nor were they a hole in the wall. Easy access to strip and strip shuttle was convenient, delivering to middle of the strip.

We stayed here every year for the past 4 years and can say it's the best getaway ever! The room rates are always great and it's just off the strip - we feel like locals when we're there. The service is so friendly.
