I will certainly never go back to this doctor! As I was struggling to read the chart, he had the audacity to tell me that my problem was that I was not trying "hard enough". He then commenced to tell me how bad my vision was, with an accusatory tone, as if it were my fault and I was purposefully not reading the chart to the best of my ability. Absurd! (I felt like I was on candid camera!) I was shocked by his attitude and have never experienced anything like this by a professional. He was impatient, arrogant and rude.

I have used Dr. Hendley for my own eye problems. I like his conservative approach; he doesn't push expensive or risky procedures, and he is thorough in checking for eye health. I have taken both of my children to him, and I had a different experience than one of the other reviewers. True, he doesn't have a "kids" office with cutesy pictures during the exam, but he treated my children well and explained what he was doing. In fact, he gave my daughter a much more complete eye exam than one of the "well-known" pediatric ophthalmologists in town. I highly recommend him to anyone.

I chose Dr. Hendley b/c his profile noted that he worked with children as well as adults. I will NEVER bring my 4 year old back again. She left scared and screaming. He and his staff treated her like an adult. Twice I had to remind them that she was 4. He never explained any part of the exam to me and i was foolish for standing by. After learning that glaucoma did not run in my family he proceeded to put the yellow drops in her eyes to test for glaucoma? A 4 year old was tested for glaucoma. Then he attempted to dilate her eyes and things went horribly bad. My daughter was screaming unctrollably and there were no kind words from him or his staff. Finally, at the end, he looks at my daughter and tells her as she is crying, her eyes sore and dilated that she did not do good today and he hopes that she does better next time. I was floored. There will never be a next time. My next step is to contact Aetna and VSP and hopefully have him removed a provider for pediatric optometry.

I am surprised at the review by jerryp - I wonder what his experience has been elsewhere - there is no reason for dilated eyes to affect the tests made, since the dilation doesn't take effect right away, and Dr. Hendley does the vision tests immediately. Puffed air is not as thorough for diagnosing some ocular diseases. I have used Dr. Hendley for over 20 years, both for vision testing and opthalmic problems, include corneal abrasion, blepharitis, and 2 bouts of very dangerous ocular herpes. His manner is professional, but just caring enough. I am not there to find a best friend. My first husband died of brain cancer, and Dr. Hendley was the first one to realize that there was a need for a neuro-opthalmologist. He readily refers you to others when the need arises. The office staff have always been top of the line - friendly, helpful, and caring.

Optic measurements were taken while our eyes were dialated insuring less that optimal results. The lab used by the resident optician yielded suspect results since several "do overs" were required. Based on high cost, cursory treatment by the opthalmologist and the above-mentioned inaccurate prescription, my wife and I will not use this eye care facility in the future.

I am very particular about my eye care and I found Dr. Hendley to be very caring and supportive. His examination of my eyes was thorough and complete. I was very pleased with the optical shop located on the premises. I would definitely recommend

I came to Dr. Hendly with some pretty bad eye problems, I've had for years. He knew exactly what to do. I figured he would try to sell me expensive lenses, like other places, instead he got to the root of the problem.

Dr. Hendley is nice and professional. Office staff is very welcoming and the optician located in the office offers reasonably priced eye wear. No need to go to a high priced mall or chain optician.
