My fiance and I went to Henne Jewelers to have my engagement ring made with my grandmother's diamond. We got an appointment right away with one of the owners, John Henne (he and his sister own the place now, but it's been in the family for over a century), and when I decided I wanted to design my own ring, we met with him and their designer the next weekend. Both of them were wonderful to work with, offering real advice on what they suggested, as well as just chatting with us amiably while we looked. I also noticed that John greeted many of the customers who popped in by name, and everyone seemed quite pleased to see him. He also managed to greet those customers without making my fiance and I feel like we were in any way neglected, even when those other customers were older and likelier able to spend more on their jewelry purchases. My mother was visiting when the wax mold for my ring was ready for me to look at it, and John made sure he was available to show it to me and my mother, despite being very busy. The diamond I was using was from my mother's mother's ring, so she was excited to see the design I had chosen. It meant a lot to her that he was able to accommodate us on short notice. I have to say, going to Henne and designing my ring was one of the most pleasant shopping experiences of my life. My ring is better than I imagined, and I can't wait to go and design my matching wedding band. I will never shop anywhere else in Pittsburgh for jewelry.
