Fantastic Home Inspector - Sam Is The Man!
In the spring of 2008, my husband and I were attempting to purchase a home that was built in 1976; and we wanted to make sure we were armed with the unbiased facts about the home so we could make an informed and competent decision.
We interviewed several Home Inspection Companies, finally settling on Home Insight and Sam Young. We were very impressed with his professionalism, his competitive pricing and his honest candor.
My husband and I believe reputable character is very important. We trusted Sam to let us know the true condition of the home, and he came through for us! Sam was very patient and knowledgeable throughout the process. We felt like we fully participated in the inspection as we walked through the home with Sam. He encouraged our questions about the home and he provided excellent technical answers that were easy for us to understand. He provided a detailed, candid report on his findings, along with helpful home maintenance tips and energy saving suggestions in a convenient, DURABLE binder. My husband tries to keep his Honey-Do list short by hiding the binder in ever-changing, inconspicuous spots. He calls it "The Boomerang Binder". He throws it away, but, thanks to me, it always finds its way back to him.
Now, with a baby on the way, we are confident and secure with the knowledge that our home will not throw any surprises our way. Thank you Sam!

Insight about Home Insight
I represent Cooper and Sons Electric, Inc. We have worked with Mr. Young on many projects and consider him to be the most thorough inspector in the area. His insights and knowledge have saved our clients tens of thousands of dollars and he consistently goes "the extra mile." In regard to electrical products he has demonstrated professional understanding of the Powerworx (energy savings - up to 25% of electrical bill per month, total home surge protection, and reducer of harmonic distortion) how it increases the mysterious power factor in a home and saves money each month in electrical usage.

Missed $10k of damage by not climbing on roof
We hired Sam Young to do an inspection of a ranch home we were purchasing late in 2006. After about a month in our home, we discovered that the roof was severely damaged and needed to be completely replaced. The damage would have been easily noticed had Mr. Young actually climbed a ladder to look at the roof instead of inspecting it from the ground. We also recently found out that that there was damage to the chimney caused by fire that that should have been been noticed by climbing up onto the roof and looking at the chimney. In total, Mr. Young failed to report on at least $10,000 worth of damages to our home.

We tried to contact this client to help them understand they were clearly made aware of the situation in the inspection report. However, they waited 15 months before letting anyone know there was a problem. Observing the roof in the manner described is not normally done and recommended against at the school Sam teaches at. Getting on a roof does damage and can cause injury. In this case, at a minimum, the roof damage was visible around the chimney, from the ground, using binoculars. Every effort is usually made to observe this area in the attic too. There was no exception made for this house. The client was referred to a licensed, qualified, professional roofer for further evaluation leading to repairs or improvement. Their real estate agent does not remember this client pursuing this matter at the time of purchase. We make every effort to solve the Case of the Mysterious Home Condition and spend more time inspecting homes to uncover issues such as this. Let us throughly review your next house. You'll be glad you did!
