Good work, questionable customer relations
I've had a mixed experience with Mike Jones Floor Company. He has done two refinishing jobs for me, both in Upper St. Clair. The first was in an approximately 50-year-old house we lived in for 13 years. Mike refinished the oak floors there before we moved in, and they were absolutely beautiful for the entire 13 years. Then we moved to a house in the same neighborhood. This house is also about 50 years old. Mike refinished these floors before we moved in as well. But on moving day we noticed that the floors seemed dull and were scratching easily. So I called Mike. He came out in a few days and agreed that we had to put another coat of polyurethane on the floors - apparently they were so old and dry that they needed more than the two coats he used. Painfully for us, this meant removing ALL the furniture, which we had just paid a moving company to move and place. Mike did not ask for any additional fee for the do-over, but he did not offer to help move the furniture. Many of our friends and family felt he should have stepped up and done that, but we just wanted the job done and we were willing to meet him more than halfway. The floors are now gorgeous, and everyone compliments them. But now on to my third experience with Mike, or should I say his company.I am now embarking on a kitchen remodel, and I called Mike to get an estimate on laying hardwood floors in the kitchen. I want these to match the floors in the rest of the house (which again, look terrific). I called the company and spoke to a receptionist who said that Mike's next available consult appointment was on a day a couple of weeks in the future, somewhere between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Though that wasn't ideal, it was okay, so I took the appointment. The receptionist also said that they would be calling the day before the appointment to tell me a more specific time. That sounded reasonable. So, the day of my consult was supposed to be today.
