Joe Bailey, the owner of this family run company, was born into a.. furniture making family in Vermont that had the old world tendencies and mindset. His uncle, Francis 'Bud' Carpenter is a world renowned clock maker/woodworker who studied in The Black Forest of Germany. He keeps the family history book dating from 1612 when their ancestor, as an Irish indentured servant, became the town carpenter of London, hence the family name Carpenter.
As a child, Joe quickly realized through his training that it was challenging for him to cut straight lines, but he was able to hide any mistakes quite well by working with artwork and finishes. He holds a strong passion for the look and feel of wood and the natural artwork that God provides in graining, colors and texture. After years of studying and becoming a starving artist in the 60's, he mixed his woodworking heritage with his art training and endeavored to started crafting exceptional woodwork.
With a slogan and mindset of 'make wood look good,' Joe built his business from the ground up and has been following his dream ever since!

I know it sounds too hard to believe but it's the absolutely true! I bought my first real piece of furniture from JoJo, and about 6 months later gave him a rocker to restore as well. I think my words... were, "save it if you can". He laughed, smiled and in no time not only restored my piece but I swear it looked probably better then when it was new in the 1930's! I couldn't believe it! It was and is so amazing. I love his work, and have actually made a really good friend too which is the best part! He inspires me too keep working on my own pieces as well which is priceless. I highly recommend JoJo to all my friends and strangers, and I never do that unless the person is that good. Well, he is THAT GOOD, and worth every penny and a lot more!VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
After getting back my childhood high-chair, I realized that it really needed to be refinished. I called and talked to many people to get quotes and ask questions and Joe had reasonable prices and... listened to what I wanted. After getting the work back I was AMAZED at how well it looked. He even put restaurant grade clear coat on to protect it from the abuse a high-chair receives. If you want to give an old piece some love, don't hesitate to take it to Joe.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »

I took Joe a coffee table and a side table to have them distressed and weathered, and he exceeded my expectations with a finish that is amazing. Not only can he make old things look new, he can make new things look wonderfully old! I enjoyed my visit to his shop so much that I that I left with with a custom mirror and frame that were found in his stockpile of parts! He's a great guy that does amazing work at a reasonable price in a short time!
My Mom had a spool cabinet in our house as long as I can remember. No one wanted it when we divvied up the furniture. Joe made it look better than I ever remembered. It looks amazing and I am passing it along to my daughter. Highly recommend him!
Not only did Joe make my Grandmother's oak rocking chair look good, he made it look better than I had ever hoped. Joe treated it like it were his own grandmother's rocker, and even explained to me how the quarter sawn oak showed the fine craftmanship of its day. Now Grandma's rocking chair is a family heirloom to cherish in the years to come. Thanks Joe!
Joe just dropped off my furniture. It was falling apart and peeling. It looks amazing! It looks more beautiful than when I bought it! Thank you Joe for the work you did and at a reasonable rate. I will use you to restore my dining room table too! Laura
For our first child, we wanted to have 2 dressers restored to match the new crib we bought. Joe explained that one of the pieces, passed down from my wife's father, was actually a "great piece." He was extremely knowledgeable about the type of wood and took great care to match the contemporary espresso color. We highly recommend him.
I had a fairly expensive breakfast table with a faux finish. The table had several white blemishes where something hot was placed on the table. Joe stripped some of the finish off the table and faux finished the table again and it looks brand new again. He also added a finish that would not be so sensitive to hot items placed on the table in the future.
many years of experience and an artists eye for detail . Joe can turn a damaged or abused piece of furniture into a lovingly cared for heirloom with just a little character or to look showroom new at the customer's request. Joe's work product is superior and his prices very reasonable. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a true artisan in furniture restoration. He also happens to be a really nice guy.
I recently took a couple of black lacquer loudspeakers to Joe to have their finish repaired where they had been damaged. Even up close in natural light you can not find where they were repaired. Joe definitely exceeded my expectation and I will bring him more in the future. Not sure you could find anyone better.
I took my great-grandmothers 105 year old wardrobe to be refinished. He did an excellent job and made it look like new. On top of the quality of work he offered to deliver the piece for a small fee which was above and beyond. I will definitely use Joseph Bailey in the future. I highly recommend him!
Over the last ten years Joe has worked on several treasured family antiques that I wouldn't trust leaving with anyone else. He recently restored my dining room table which can be seen as the third thumbnail from the bottom, left hand side. Joe Bailey's customer service is excellent. The first time around, we didn't get the color quite right to match my bed, and he wanted to make sure I loved my piece. So, he painstakingly re-did it for me and it's perfect. My only complaint is that his business is quite busy, and it took a little longer than expected.... but my desk was worth the wait. Thank you, Joe! Look forward to working with you again!
I'd taken my grandmother's Lane cedar chest to another so-called furniture "repair" place and they said they couldn't fix it - the legs were severely water damaged and the veneer was pulling off, the lid had several water rings and the inside had deep scratches in it. Figuring I'd get a 2nd opinion, I called Joe and he said he hadn't met a piece of furniture he couldn't make look better! Boy, was he right! My hope chest looks great now - you can't even tell where any of the damage was! Joe's great - takes his time w/ each piece and his prices are reasonable for the amount of time and and workmanship that's required. He is very proud of his work and he should be!
Puppys and nice wooden chairs don't mix well. Joe restored my chairs back to where it was like the puppys never happened! You can tell by his reviews that he cares about his customers and his work. I'm here to tell you that he is the one to call when good wood has gone bad. You actually can't tell there was ever any damage!
If youíre looking for someone to restore/refinish a precious piece of furniture, look no further. Joseph is a first class craftsman. I have a secretary that my great-grandfather had made in the 1880ís or í90ís. It had been sitting in my grandmotherís basement for years, then it was moved to my fatherís attic where it sat for many more years. It looked like a piece of junk, the desk front was broken at the hinges, one of the doors was cracked and the hinges bent, the moldings were all falling off, it had missing veneer, etc, etc, etc. I took it to Joseph on a recommendation from a furniture maker friend of mine. Wow, Joseph delivered the restored piece on Monday and I was thrilled with the results Ė itís just gorgeous; Iím sure my children will be fighting over who gets it. Joseph's attention to detail is amazing. Everything was done to keep the historical accuracy of the piece and the results are beautiful. Thank you Joseph; Jeff
Mr. Bailey kept my piece for over 4 months and when I got it back it had a very cloudy finish and was NOT even close to a smooth finish. To say I am disappointed in his quailty of work would be an understatement. I would NOT recommend this business to anyone.
well, again, i apologize for not pleasing this customer. i advised the customer up front that it needed a complete re-do and he wanted a quick cheap fix .. i did everything above and beyond expectations, and basically made the piece more than presentable , and was still constantly hurried. 30 years in this profession and this is one of the few instances where i just couldn't make the customer happy . i always try to perform a job in a timely manner , but i would rather explain why it took so long then have to try and explain poor quality work.
