I have been to several martial arts schools in my life, and Lockes Karate is by far one of the best. My whole family attends class there, and we plan on staying part of the community for a very long time.

I signed my children up to attend this academy over a year ago. I was looking for help on how to teach them qualities that I thought were important to have: Respect, Focus and Determination. Not only am I seeing these qualities taking shape in my children but I am amazed at what my children are able to do today, that they couldn't do a year ago. As a student myself, I had wanted to get in shape but was afraid that I was too old to begin and not ever having tried Karate before; I had thought that I would look silly. I kept imagining that after having witnessed my lack of coordination skill, that they would politely ask me to go try my hand at pottery instead. Well, that hasn't happened yet. And the only thing silly was waiting as long as I did. Too old? Ha! There are students at least ten years older than me that encourage me to "Do just one more"-This school somehow encompasses professional courtesy while at the same time being observant of each student's specific goals and challenges. This is more than a school that strengthens your body it also strengthens your character.

I've been a student at Locke's Karate Academy for about eight months. Prior to that I studied for about six months in another dojo. I've made much more progress working with Master Locke than at my previous dojo. I would attribute this progress not only to the high quality of instruction, but also to Master Locke's high standards of excellence, his availability and willingness to help, and his ability to motivate his students to meet their goals in training. Everything about the school reflects a professional environment, and added to that are the great workouts and fun we have as we train together. I recommend Locke's Karate to anyone looking for a fun, professional environment to train in, no matter where you are with your current level of experience or fitness.

If you are looking for a place that encourages discipline, character, integrity and relationship while teaching your child or yourself how to be physically fit then look no further than Master Aaron Locke's Karate Academy. The instructors are well trained and work hard to encourage you to push your limits and reach your goals. They emphasize discipline and integrity as integral parts of the curriculum. My favorite is watching Instructor Locke work with the children. My daughter has become much more self-confident and obedient since starting glasses 6 months ago. She brings the school expectations home and for the most part lives up to them. She thinks the class is fun, and hates it when she has to miss it for any reason, including snow days! For myself, I have found Master Locke and my classmates to be very encouraging in my own path to learn Tang Soo Do. He tells me on a regular basis that he wants to see improvement, even if it is a little at a time. As a result I can now do 40 push-ups, slowly; six months ago I couldn't even do 1! I also find that I stand taller and am beginning to actually enjoy the tough work outs

My daughter has taken class for more than a year at Locke's Karate Academy. Through the excellent instruction given in the children's program, she has enhanced her physical fitness, leadership abilities and confidence. I was so impressed with the experience, I started taking class myself. The instructors are greatly skilled and I appreciate how they take the time to help all students achieve more.

After previously moving from an area where there were plenty of Martial Arts schools, I decided to give Locke's Karate a chance to further my goals. Master Locke and his instructors amazed me at their traditional approach on Tang Soo Do, and their knowledge of the mind and body. No other place in the Kansas City area or elsewhere would even compare to Locke's. An instant 10+ star rating.

When my son came to me last year and told me he wanted to learn karate I did a lot of online research looking for the the right place for us to fit in. Out of all the places in the KC area I really like what Lockes Karate had to offer. I like that Master Locke instills disipline and confidence in each of his classes. My son and I both started in Feb of 2010, and in this year I have watched my child grow in mind and body. I wanted him in something that would not only be healthy but to make him "mentally strong" as well and Master Locke and all the instructors have succeded in doing that. He has more self esteem, and confidence in himself, as do I. The greatest thing is that they WANT you to succeed, they WANT you to do well and they help you in every and any way they can. Its not easy, but the instructors are always on hand to teach and help. Enrolling myself and my son in Locke's Academy was one of the best things I could have done.

My daughter and I both take Goju Ryu at this school. Master Locke is not perfect, but who among us is? While we cannot be perfect, we can be excellent, and Master Locke is. I have some previous marshal arts experience, and it seems to me this school is exactly what a Goju Ryu school should be. If you want an instructor who is knowledgeable, patient, is always trying to learn to teach better, and will push you to do better, this is the school to join.

My daughter has been going to Locke Academy in Belton, MO starting last year and she has not only maintained nearly a straight A average in school, but has increased her physical fitness level significantly. Master Locker and his instructors have done a wonderful job installing discipline in my daughter while doing it in a fun atmosphere. I hightly recommend Locke Academy to any child wanting to learn martial arts.

I have studied three other forms of martial arts in my lifetime. I have attended classes here for the last 3 years. The school overall is a good school. There are areas of improvement that I feel should be made. I think that sometimes the instructor has tunnel vision and doesn't have the listening ears on. The techniques taught at this school are as effective as any other school or form. The martial artist needs to constantly work at them. The main children's instructor always gives an exceptional class and instructions. Her interaction with the kids is always positive, encouraging, and the kids always enjoy her class. I have always enjoyed her class when she was the class instructor. I wish that all the instructors would use her instructions to improve theirs.

If you are an adult and looking for a good martial arts school, I highly recommend this one. It is a solid choice for men or women looking for self-defense training or exercise and fitness. I started with Locke's Karate for exercise and general fitness. Martial arts is a great way to strengthen mind, body and spirit. I stayed with the Academy because I and my fellow students receive excellent training, a great deal of respect, and an environment where we are encouraged to grow to our fullest potential. I have trained at one other martial arts school (that one for about two years). I eventually lost interest with the ever-increasing costs and the ever-decreasing attention I was receiving from the instructors. Master Instructor Locke and his staff are different. They are engaged with you as an individual student of the art. They take a personal interest in helping you develop your skills to YOUR personal potential. They don't lose interest if you may be limited and they are skilled enough, themselves, to challenge even those with the greatest potential. Honestly, I (pun intended) get a kick out of going to class.

I originally started my son with this school for social reasons. He has been there for 3yrs now. It has been wonderful for his physical fitness and has helped greatly with his social skills. The instructors are so great with the kids and he now is in the adults class and has been for a year or so. The transition to the adult classes were made smooth by Master Locke even though expectations are higher. A few months ago my son was diagnosed with functional Autism. The fact that I put him in this class years ago has helped greatly with this aspect of his life.

Locke's Karate Academy far exceeds other Martial Arts schools you will encounter. The classes are reasonably sized with lots of one on one attention. Kids in our classes don't just learn to kick and punch; they learn self-discipline, respect, focus and control. But this school is not just for kids either. Master Locke provides excellent adult classes as well. This is most likely one of the only schools you will find that teachers as many adults as children. The standards are high yet attainable and beginers are always welcome. If you are not convinced that this school is a superior school I challenge you to visit other karate schools, look around, and then come vist Locke's Karate. I guarantee you will see the difference the moment you walk in the door.
I attended Locke's Karate Academy and was very pleased with the school and its instructors. The Instructors and Master Locke were helpful, encouraging, and supportive. I would love to still be a student there, but my job took me out of the area. I highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to improve their strength, discipline, and self-confidence.
One of the best traditional martial arts school you will find in Kansas City. Great environment for kids to make friends, learn life skills, self defense, respect and karate of coarse. As an adult, the classes are very challenging and I am able to train with other adults as well as kids. The class schedule allows you to attend as many classes as you want in a week and offers an open class on Saturday. If you're looking for a karate school for your kids or an adult looking to get back in shape I would recommend our school to anyone.
