MHI remodeled our master bath. Eventually we started getting strange smells in that bathroom. Then we noticed some tiles starting to displace a little around the shower threshold. When a loose tile was removed to be fixed, we found everything behind that tile to be completely molded. The tiles were attached to sheetrock, and not backer board. Under the sheetrock was a vapor barrier, but it didn't completely cover the 2x4s. The 2x4s were completely molded black. Another removed tile exposed a hole that went into the wall. There wasn't a true shower pan installed creating a cesspool inside the wall next to the shower.

If you are thinking about using MHI for a basement remodel, please reconsider. MHI completely walked off the job and left us with an unfinished basement. Never bothered returning our phone calls and basically disappeared. Marshall is full of empty promises. He initially told us that our remodel would take 16 weeks and after 6 months, it still wasn't complete. He wouldn't respond to our phone calls and lied about when his workers would show up. After we threatened to void the remaining terms of the contract, he vanished. Luckily we found someone else to finish the job. If you are thinking about using MHI- don't do it!!

While looking up another business on Kudzu, I see that my previous review of MHI (along with negative reviews from others) has disappeared. I'm making it a point to review companies, both good and bad, since so many people I know have such a difficult time finding honest people who do good work these days. With that said, I cannot recommend MHI to anyone. We had a horrible experience with them, from the owner "forgetting" when he originally said the work would be completed, to workers cutting the phone, security AND cable lines during our basement remodel. For the most part, there is little attention to detail. It was nearly impossible to get a return phone call from the owner when problems arose, which was every few days with our project. We ended up getting someone else to finish the job. With the way MHI operates, I have no idea how they're still doing business. Don't hire them to do work for you if you want the job done correctly and on time.

Promised to finish basement in 4 mos but took 9 mos and puts onus on owner for delay. He is a very good salesman before signing the contract and the customer service goes for a toss after that. He does not know how to talk to customers respectfully. Constantly have to be behind for getting things done. Says something but does differently. Ask for a change and the project gets delayed further...Finally, brings you to a state where you have no patience and end up with what he can do and get him out of premise... I can go on and on... Never recommend this business to anyone...

The owner of MHI comes across as a smooth talking salesman. Once the contract is signed and work begins, the service goes downhill. Our basement project took nearly a year to complete. The owner - Marshal Mainard - became confrontational and swore like a sailor when questioned about workmanship and additional charges, threatening law suits and liens. My recommendation - don't use them!
