Just saw the review by spamfilter. This person could not be more mistaken. Been using Mantych Electric for years and found them to be very fair, trustworthy and knowledgeable. Don't know the what happened here but spamfilter must have misunderstood Mr. Mantych. Great company and comes highly recommended by many people and businesses.

Charged for a service call just to have a conversation that could've been had over the telephone. Wasn't given or shown an itemized list of suggested work. Price was incredibly high and suggested work that was claimed to be "mandatory" was not mandatory at all by code.

Since this person did not use a name I can only guess at who it is. Last week I was called to the home of a lady who was selling her home and had been caught in a catch 22 with the authority having jurisdiction (County). An unfinished room in the home had later been finished without permitting and she had been told by the County the room would need to be permitted, inspected by a structural engineer, electrician and then the County in order for a certificate of occupancy to be issued. She contacted us as the electrician and asked what I would charge. I told her there would be a minimum $85.00 service charge, which included the first hour. She agreed so we set a time to meet. In the mean time, I contacted the County to see exactly what they would require and was told that one room would need to meet the requirements of the current electrical code, specifically tamper proof receptacles and AFCI protection. When we arrived at the appointed time and shown the room in question, I informed the customer of my conversation with the County and based my estimate on those findings. While surveying the job I found this room was fed from the outside load center which contained no main breaker. Not sure of what the County would require, if anything to correct this situation, I gave her an estimated cost of installing a main breaker BUT only IF required by the County. (Just trying to cut down on any surprises that could possibly arise.) As I left, I asked for her email address so I could send her an itemized estimate and that she would only charged for what work we actually completed. I also told her, if it was my house, I would challenge the County on this since the house had previously been sold at least two times since this work was completed. She said she would do that.
The next morning I received an email from her saying she had talked with a "dear" friend and his electrician said that the AFCI protection may be required but nothing else. She said, "Basically we've decided to follow through with the structural engineer, apply for the permit, and take our chances with the inspector." She closed the email with, "Again, thank you for coming out. I'll have a check in the mail to you for the $85 service call either today (time permitting) or tomorrow at the latest." The next day she emailed me and said. "Sending the check out today. Just got word from the Permits office that the room was finished on the original permit when it was built."
1. "Charged for a service call just to have a conversation that could've been had over the telephone." Could not assess job over phone.
2. "Wasn't given or shown an itemized list of suggested work." Was to be emailed next morning but received her email first.
3. "Price was incredibly high" Her opinon, she did not have to accept.
4. "suggested work that was claimed to be "mandatory" was not mandatory at all by code." According to the County, it was. Be glad to furnish the name of person talked with or his supervisor.

As a Coldwell-Banker HPW Realtor I have used Mantych Electric on several occassions and have been satisfied with the results. Scope of work is typically "punchlist" items, adding circuits and ceilign fans/light fixtures. I am satisfied with the response time and quality of work. Mantych Electric is competitively priced and I will continue to use and refer clients for electrical work.
