When I was about 7 years old my mom and my pediatrician noticed that I had trouble walking. I fell a lot. My doctor sent me to a Pediatric Orthopedic. He took xrays and told my mom that all babies are born with their femurs turned inward, but at a certain age they will fall into place. The orthopedic doctor recommended that I have hip surgery. He told me that the procedure would require him to cut the top of my femurs and rotate my legs and re-attach them using medal pins. Once the surgery was done I would have 6 months recovery time that included physical therapy. My dad had started seeing Dr. Martin and he mentioned my problems to him during a visit. Dr. Martin asked my dad to bring me in. I started treatment and about 8 months later I had a follow up appointment with the my medical doctor. They took xrays again and noticed that my femurs had turned and that I would not need surgery after all. Now I can enjoy playing soccer and softball. Last year I even played on a traveling soccer team. I walk differently now and do not fall as much. I think I even run faster. I do not think I would have wanted to have the surgery if it was not absolutely necessary. I think I would ask the doctors before I did. BE A PATIENT AND DO WHAT DR. MARTIN SAYS!
