Matthew and team were awesome. Had 5 trees taken down as well as some trimming. It was great working with the owner - he has a passion for his business and a commitment to customers. Price was fair... and he worked within our budget. Crew arrived on time, worked fast and cleaned everything up. Would definitely recommend and will use again.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
I contacted Matthew's Tree Service the week before Christmas, hoping they could fit me in to have three large trees removed and our (very overgrown) yard cleaned up (hedges trimmed, leaves blown,... pine straw, etc.). Matthew himself came out the same day to give me a quote and some advice (both short- and long-term) on our landscaping. I appreciated that he didn't recommend removing trees, etc. unless they really needed to be removed -- he seemed to be eager to preserve and improve the plant life wherever possible. Initially, his quote was out of our budget, but he worked with us to lower the price and also offered to let us pay in multiple payments. His crew arrived the next day while we were out of town, and we returned to find a beautiful yard, ready to greet our Christmas guests! The trees had been very close to (even attached to) the house, but now you'd never know they were ever there, and my home was left unscathed despite the proximity. I will readily call Matthew again should I need any more trees removed or landscaping work in the future.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »

So far Kudzu has never steered me wrong, but in this case this service provider was very much overrated. The first estimate they gave me was more than $200 inflated. When I told them that my neighbor just had a tree removed, that was much bigger than mine, they dropped the price to just above what I told them she paid. The price they quoted me included removal of two dead shrubs, which by the way are still sitting in my front yard. When we asked them about it, they wanted to argue that it was not included even though we have the estimate in writing detailing what was included in the cost. Once we proved to them we had the estimate in writing, they said they would send someone back out in a few days and that was over a month ago. You also need to know that if you write them a check for their services, it may take over a month for them to cash it. Needless to say, I am very dissatisfied with this company and would never recommend them.
Dear Joseph & Adrienne. I came in specifically on a Sunday to review our customer accounts since I did not see your job listed on our "hold/pending" list. Thankfully, you put "AcworthResident99" as your name on Kudzu, so it narrowed things down. Let me first apologize for "my" error. "I" personally made up the original work list for the crew and did not include the two dead boxwood shrubs purely by accident. They were to be removed at no-charge while we were on the property taking down the multi-lead tree. It was completely my mistake. Since it was not listed on the work list, the crew would not have known what was "approved" on your estimate, especially since the original proposal, which you most likely showed them, had a part A & part B, for which you approved only one of the options on the emailed version sent to our office. I wish you would have called the office with your questions or concerns rather than waiting over a month to write a negative review. I would have sent someone immediately over to your home...especially since you are only five miles from our shop. I do not have to defend our quotation on the tree. Because of the size and location, as well as grinding of the stump and the spreading roots, it was right on the money as far as pricing. Once quoted, we do not drop or match pricing based on what some anonymous person may have had done. I can assure you your check was not held by us, but misplaced at the post office along with other letters that thankfully arrived to our box. Again, I apologize for “my” error with omitting the dead shrubs from the work list. The owner of Matthew’s Tree Service, and our hard working crew members have made it the outstanding company that it is for the past 26 years, and I hope my over sight with the shrubs will not deter others from becoming part of our extended family of customers. Christina, Office Manager @ Matthew’s Tree Service Inc.
Matthew and Amy visited with me to provide an exact quote. Amy was excellent-she is detailed and really cares about making sure they quoted things accurately. The crew came that same day. Their work was excellent and there were no surprises. Thanks for a job well done!
Matthew and his crew showed up at my property and did an outstanding job. They not only took care of what I had called them there to do, they did far more work than I had even asked them to do. I truly believe this is because Matthew takes pride in his work and absolutely refuses to do substandard work. Thanks again Matthew to a job well done!
Crew came to the house and did a fantastic job prunning the large oak branches hanging over my house and yard. Matthew came out while the work was being done to make sure I was satisfied; even cleaned out the top gutter for me while his team was on my roof removing branches. I really appreciated this and the personal attention given to the job. All at a fair price. I would use this company again and refer to friends and neighbors without hesitation.
We had five trees fall due to wet soil conditions on Christmas Eve. Matthew responded within hours to provide an estimate we needed to deal with the insurance company. The day after the claim was approved Matthew responded with the crane needed as well as all other equipment. By the time we returned from work the entire job was complete including blowing off the drive and sidewalks. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a professional tree removal service. Thank you for a great job.
Matthew's removed some pines that were leaning toward or hanging over the house. Access was limited because of our fence and gate but they took care of the trees that risked falling on the house without a problem. I came home from work on the day that they said they'd be there and the trees were gone with the work area cleaned up nicely. Good work and reasonalbe quote on a job that I'd consider challenging.
Matthew came out to my house on a Sunday afternoon and did an estimate. He gave me a very fair and competitive price and had the work done in a day. The whole crew did an excellent job. I would recommend them to anyone!
We hired Matthew to remove a very large oak (47") that had been dropping limbs and causing roof damage to my mom's house. Matthew's personal manner and knowledge assured my elderly mother that the tree was hazardous and should be removed. Also, Matthew's senior citizen discount brought his estimate many hundreds under the others. Matthew and Crew really hustle. Their operation is coordinated and highly skilled. I will definitely hire Matthew and Crew for my next tree service.
I was in a jam due to tree roots that severed the main sewage line at my rental. I had the plumbers out with the backhoe digging up the pipe when they realized we would need to remove the 25 foot maple. I called and Matthew, the owner got his crew out there and removed the tree within two hours. Matthew even came out to check on the job to make sure his guys did the job well. I was also pleasantly surprised with the very low price!!!!!!! Thank you!
they were prompt, courteous, professional and thorough. they had the equipment, personnel and expertise to do a difficult job in one short trip, saving a lot of headaches. experience and competence matters.
Matthew came to look at my down tree as soon as he could from the ATL flooding. He was extremely efficient and knowledgeable. He showed me exactly why the tree came down and looked at my neighbor's tree that was hit when mine came down. There was no pressure to take down other trees, just a honest opinion about what I would need to think about in the future. His crew was able to come out right away. They were very professional and did a great job. Everything was cleaned nicely and there were enough men on site to do a safe, speedy job. Thanks Matthew and crew - juli eschenbach
We had a tree near the house struck by lightning that split and then fell into the yard, power lines and road. I called Matthews and the owner came out within a few hours to provide a detailed quote. When their crew arrived they got right to work cleaning up limbs and branches while the heavy duty equipment was getting into place. The crew completed precision work around power lines and protected my house from damage, they were focused on safety! The team at Matthews is friendly, professional they know their business. Amazing work from an amazing crew of Pros!
Our 90 foot water oak that’s about 20 feet from our house was hit by lightning last week. I was at work so I missed the big event but my neighbors told me they heard a huge bang. Matthew’s Tree Service crew did a fantastic job with the tree removal. This huge tree was totally cracked down the middle with the bark blown off making this dangerous to remove. In addition, the tree had grown toward the house, which meant that most of the branches were right over the roof. This made the removal tougher since they had to avoid damaging the roof as well as keep the cracked tree together in one piece while they took of the limbs. These guys are totally professional. The crew got here at 7:15 and each and every one of them worked non-stop until 12:30pm. They got the job done and they cleaned up the sawdust, blew off the roof, the deck, the pathways, the carport and the driveway. They were all very courteous and respectful. Their price was reasonable and they really know what they’re doing. I’ve already recommended them to my friend at work and am planning to get them out here again to do some more work. Great service—I give them the highest recommendation. Lucy in Tucker, GA
Pros: •On Time •Very Fast Cons: •Owner was extremely manipulative •Consummate "Con" Man •Did NOT do work as discussed •Kept changing the price •Left piles of debris •Left two heavy logs behind •Tore down our 20 ft wooden gate •First told us he would have it repaired •Told us later we had to pay for damages to the gate •Justified not paying for damages by telling us he Did minor things for FREE •Trimmed one set of hedges in front and on top, but not in back •Took most of his men to another site @ noon •Two men sat under the trees for 3+ hours •Filled in our sink hole with soil containing 99.9% wood debris •Charged over $4,000 for his “work” I would very much like to know if his employees or relatives posted all the positive comments---I am not easily conned but, unfortunately, I trusted him the first time he came to give us an estimate. I TRULY regret having hired him and will NEVER use him again, nor any of his “repair” men. The business described by all these reviews was NOT the business I dealt with.
Wow Linda--Ouch! Your job was performed on 6/19/2009, where we took down over 11 trees, trimmed all the shrubs/hedges, chipped 2 enormous old debris piles, pressure washed the front of your house, filled in your sink hole with top soil, and took care of various other small items all for $3,800. We walked around the property together at the completion of the job, & you & your husband were both pleased & tickled with everything that got accomplished. You even stated that "you were going to leave a glowing review for us!" HAHA *Every item was completed as discussed verbally & in writing. *The price never changed--the contract shows $3,800 & that is what you paid. *"The post" connected to your 30+ year old wooden gate was damaged accidentally when the dump truck hauling the top soil was backing out, however, I PAID the fence contractor for the repair (I have the receipt). *All the hedges were trimmed as discussed & approved during the final walk-through. *Yes, most of my crew had to leave on an emergency call at noon, but returned as quickly as possible to complete your job. *If the two remaining groundsmen took breaks "under the trees"--they are allowed to in 90-degree heat per OSHA regulations, plus, without the heavy equipment that was taken to the emergency call--there was only so much they could have done until the rest of the crew returned. You were not paying us by the hour! *The sink hole was filled-in with TOP SOIL purchased from a local company (I have the receipt). *You were NOT "charged over $4,000 for my work"--you were charged what was contracted: $3,800! After our final walk-through of the job site, you happily provided me with your Mastercard. I have never accepted a payment from a customer who was not satisfied with the results of a job. Linda, I do not understand where this "out of left field" review came from. An immediate telephone call (not a bad review 23 days later) would have been the professional thing to do. Talk about a kick in the stomach. I'm the one who should feel conned by your behavior!
Professionalism. Visited May 2008 and gave expert recommendations as to several dead or diseased trees that need to be removed, those that needed trimming, and those that were healthy. Showed up with the crew about 3 days later (early) and by 10:30, had removed about 7 trees, chipped everything, and absolutely no damage to landscaping or the yard. Just a great job.
