They have become one of my preferred vendors for our property management company. They are great, friendly staff, quick response time and affordable. Most of all good quality work!
I've been impressed with the professionalism and ease of working with Matthew's from the beginning. When I called, they gave me the option of sending someone out even if I wasn't home and leaving a... quote in the mailbox, which expedited the process of having someone look at my trees without having to rework my schedule. I ended up being home, though, and the serviceman who came to my house was the owner himself - I got the feeling this was standard. Matthew clearly knew trees well and he seemed to care more about protecting trees than just about getting my business. They scheduled my work within two days of the assessment and performed the job quickly and professionally. The office manager was in constant contact with me, and I never felt the need to track them down. I've used numerous tree services in Atlanta, but I've finally found one I'll stick with in Matthew's Tree Service!VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »

I called Matthew on a Saturday mornng because our cat had been stuck 30 ft up in a tree for more than a day. Matthew said they would be here before lunchtime and they were! Very impressive. He's obviously rescued cats before, because he knew just what to do to get her down. We were so happy to get our cat back safely. And while he was here he gave us some advice about our other trees. We will definitely use him again. Oh, and the funniest part of the story is that our cat's name is Squirrel.
Last week after a storm one of our tall trees broke a huge part of it that fell on our patio smashing our furniture flat, barely missing the house and my 3-year old bedroom (where he was asleep at that moment!) We were lucky nobody got hurt. My husband was out of town and I was completely lost without knowing what to do. First thing in the morning I called Matthew Tree service and explained what had happened. Matthew, the owner, talked to me and assured that they will take care of the situation. Although they were extremely busy with scheduled jobs, they arrived promptly and removed the tree and did a good clean up after the tree removal. Matthew, we cannot thank you enough! Your response to our need was PRICELESS and we will highly recommend you to anybody! Ladies, if a tree happen to fall in your yard while your husbands are out of town - don’t hesitate to call Matthew tree service!
I called them weeks ago to have someone come out and give me an estimate. They said someone would call me that day. Then a week later after not hearing from anyone they call and ask if I still want the estimate. I say yes, and they still haven't come out. I guess they don't need new business.
Dear sg1000, Please accept my apology for the delay in getting back with you regarding your quotation. We normally are able to make contact within 24 hours, if not sooner. For the past few weeks Mother Nature has been busy with her afternoon pop-up storms and micro bursts. Every member of my staff has been working from sun up to sun down assisting local homeowners' get their property back in order. We have made every effort to contact anyone waiting on a quote, playing lots of phone tag in the process, to let them know of our delays. Never do we like to miss meeting new clients and starting new business relationships. Again, please accept my apology for the inconvenience. That was never my intention. I wish you great health and happiness. Matthew Golgan, proud owner of Matthew's Tree Service Inc.
We ended up not selecting Matthew's because we got a bid with a cheaper price and it was pretty basic cleaning work. However, we did want to mention that when he came out to make the bid, it was clear that he knew what he was talking about. He had some good ideas. So we would consider him in the future for more meaningful landscape work.
We have had Matthew's Tree Service work on our yard twice: the first time a couple of years ago, and the second time today. Both times, we have been so pleased that I am now writing my first Kudzu review, ever. The work was estimated and written up clearly, and there was no confusion at all on what we expected to be done or the cost of the work. The crew worked carefully and safely, and did a beautiful job. Clean-up was beyond perfect--they even removed debris and leaves that were there before they arrived, and the yard looks better now than before they came! Matthew always takes his time with us, and in addition to his great advice, he has some very creative ideas. I wanted to save a section of a felled tree for my young child to use for climbing/balancing, and Matthew spontaneously designed a clever balance beam and bench from the tree trunk, and even had the crew turn the stump into a tall tree-chair, complete with foot-holds! Over the past couple of years, I've given their number to everyone who asks me for a tree service recommendation, and highly recommend this company. We are so pleased to have found Matthew's Tree Service!
We have used Matthew's twice (2003 and 2010) and are very pleased with the speed and quality of service and the price. I'm an engineer and have "higher" expectations than most and Matthew's always meets and/or exceeds my expectations! Steve H. - Woodstock
Service was prompt and their price was the best of the 3 quotes we received. There was some damage done to our lawn, but Amy was quick to respond and correct the issue by having her team sod the affected areas. Mistakes sometimes happen, but Matthew's showed great customer service by immediately fixing the mistake.
Matthew's did a great job. They removed three very large trees, safely; cleaned everything up. All in one day. I will use again.
We hired Matthew's Tree Service to remove 1 Bradford pear, 2 pine and 4 sweet gum trees on our (and our neighbor's) property back in February, and were very impressed with their service. Another neighbor even went out of her way to tell us what a great job they did, especially the clean-up they did after the tree cutting work was completed. I got four bids for the job and Matthew's was the second best. However, I had more confidence in hiring Matthew's because of the professionalism of the person that came to survey the job, wrote and provided the detailed bid.
After reading the reviews on Kudzu I had a perception that Matthew's would be one of the best companies for my job. A simple tree removal, sodding of my lawn and installation of a new tree. I followed the instructions on the website to send an e-mail to get a quote. At first I received a voicemail saying someone would be by in 2-3 days, however I did not receive a response. After a brief follow-up I was informed that due to the weather and recent emergency calls my quote would be delayed and someone would get back to me. Understandable. However, I needed follow-up a second time to get an appointment. After that I was perplexed to receive a cordial e-mail providing a quote for 1 of the 3 requested services, and a phone number to another company to get the sodding completed. So Matthews seems like an honest company, but don't expect them to take all jobs.
Dear Shaun, You are correct. When Mother Nature steps in with high winds and rain, a routine quote schedule can definitely be delayed. I thank every client & potential client who remained patient & understanding until we were able to catch up. As far as your 3-part quote, we quickly sent the tree removal & stump grinding portion to you the same day we looked at it. We never heard back about your replacement selection in order to get pricing from the nursery. Your wife didn't want to come outside to speak with me while I was there and your dad didn't want to take the tree down at all. I left you a message to call me--which you never did. I did forward our direct sod supplier's information to you, since you would have been able to get a much better price by cutting out the middle-man (me), especially since you were working with a budget. Plus, I didn't know you were being pressured by your HOA to get the project completed in a week. This I found out through your email last evening. Once items are priced, selected, & ordered, they take additional time for delivery & installation. We would not have been able to assist you with that short of a time-frame with storm damage delays. I am sorry that you feel your time was wasted, but glad that you were able to have your job completed elsewhere. Best wishes for a wonderful summer. MTS "Proudly celebrating 26 year"
I first contacted this company via email at night and rec'd a phone call from Matthew shortly afterward. I told him of our concern about caterpillars and webs in one of our trees. He asked me to email photos and then called me back after seeing the pics. He told me I could save a lot of money spraying the tree myself rather than paying him to come out. He even told me exactly what to buy. However my wife and I wanted to have a professional job so I called back and left a VM message late at night. To my surprise and delight, Matthew and Amy showed up at our house the next morning! He sprayed the lower part of the tree with a hose sprayer and said he would return today with the bucket so he could go high above the top of the tree and do a complete job. Matthew and Amy showed up again this morning and did a very thorough and complete job of getting rid of our thousands of tent worms. He even trimmed the damaged branches and hauled them away! We are so happy that we found Matthews Tree Service on Kudzu. Matthew and Amy are incredibly kind and friendly and did an amazing job of solving our problem. I recommend this company with absolutely no reservation and know we will call them again if any tree issues arise in the future.
Owner seems very friendly at first, but before you know it you'll feel bullied. The fact that he responds to every neutral/negative Kudzu review with a lengthy, nasty diatribe should give you an idea of what you'll be dealing with. We had an emergency removal & he talked us into several other removals, which was fine, but never discussed what would happen to the trees afterwards. Sure, we should have asked, but as we told him, we're new to this area & to tree maintenance! By the time we asked, they'd already cut everything into logs too small to chip. He would not remove them. We ended up paying someone else to remove them, on top of paying top-dollar to Matthew's. We're doing more tree work now, and we won't be calling Matthew's.
It is quite natural to feel hurt or discouraged when your performance, etc is criticized by another individual in society or a public forum such as this. I know that criticism used constructively can help to improve on what has already been done, but it can also be a source of discouragement when it comes unexpectedly & completely out of left field.
When I initially read the above review, my first thought was “they must have posted it to the wrong service provider.” Actually, I’m quite convinced that that is exactly the case. In nearly 26 years in business, I can still recall almost every customer, job site, good & bad situation. I know for a fact that I have never “bullied” a client into purchasing our service. On the contrary, I usually shock them by talking them out of taking down trees unless they are dead, or a definite hazard. If services are discussed, every aspect of the job, from start to finish, is put in writing & scheduled when all parties are in agreement and the contract is signed. Our experienced crew members cut the logs into manageable size pieces to be hand carried, chipped & hauled from site. The only time wood & debris is left on site is if the client specifically states they want to keep it. Believe me, it takes more time and effort to cut logs into “small” pieces than it does to leave them long for chipping. It’s an exact process that any tree service adheres to in order to work effectively & efficiently. Since 1984, we have prided ourselves on our cleanup services with as little disturbance or impact as possible to the surrounding area, while leaving the property in the same condition, if not better, than as we found it. Plus, I don’t accept payment unless the customer is satisfied.
By the way, the definition of DIATRIBE is: a bitter, sharply abusive denunciation, attack, or criticism. I don’t believe that is the case with any of my replies to neutral or negative reviews. Peace to all & a wonderful week ahead. Matthew Golgan, Proud Owner of Matthew’s Tree Service Inc.
I have used Matthew's Tree Service twice now on investment property. Both times he has given me a fair price and does exactly what he says he will do. They do the job quickly and clean up everything. I highly recommend his service. I know I will use him again.
So far Kudzu has never steered me wrong, but in this case this service provider was very much overrated. The first estimate they gave me was more than $200 inflated. When I told them that my neighbor just had a tree removed, that was much bigger than mine, they dropped the price to just above what I told them she paid. The price they quoted me included removal of two dead shrubs, which by the way are still sitting in my front yard. When we asked them about it, they wanted to argue that it was not included even though we have the estimate in writing detailing what was included in the cost. Once we proved to them we had the estimate in writing, they said they would send someone back out in a few days and that was over a month ago. You also need to know that if you write them a check for their services, it may take over a month for them to cash it. Needless to say, I am very dissatisfied with this company and would never recommend them.
Dear Joseph & Adrienne. I came in specifically on a Sunday to review our customer accounts since I did not see your job listed on our "hold/pending" list. Thankfully, you put "AcworthResident99" as your name on Kudzu, so it narrowed things down. Let me first apologize for "my" error. "I" personally made up the original work list for the crew and did not include the two dead boxwood shrubs purely by accident. They were to be removed at no-charge while we were on the property taking down the multi-lead tree. It was completely my mistake. Since it was not listed on the work list, the crew would not have known what was "approved" on your estimate, especially since the original proposal, which you most likely showed them, had a part A & part B, for which you approved only one of the options on the emailed version sent to our office. I wish you would have called the office with your questions or concerns rather than waiting over a month to write a negative review. I would have sent someone immediately over to your home...especially since you are only five miles from our shop. I do not have to defend our quotation on the tree. Because of the size and location, as well as grinding of the stump and the spreading roots, it was right on the money as far as pricing. Once quoted, we do not drop or match pricing based on what some anonymous person may have had done. I can assure you your check was not held by us, but misplaced at the post office along with other letters that thankfully arrived to our box. Again, I apologize for “my” error with omitting the dead shrubs from the work list. The owner of Matthew’s Tree Service, and our hard working crew members have made it the outstanding company that it is for the past 26 years, and I hope my over sight with the shrubs will not deter others from becoming part of our extended family of customers. Christina, Office Manager @ Matthew’s Tree Service Inc.
Matthew and Amy visited with me to provide an exact quote. Amy was excellent-she is detailed and really cares about making sure they quoted things accurately. The crew came that same day. Their work was excellent and there were no surprises. Thanks for a job well done!
