First opened in 1990 the Melrose Veterinary Hospital provides the service of 3 veterinarians. The hospital provides diagnostics, care and treatment, dentistry and surgery for all small animals. They have an in-house radiology facility, and a cardiac and abdominal ultrasound machine. They employ only the latest and most up to date techniques. An in-house laboratory also helps to provide convenient service to their patients and clients.
I have been using Melrose vet for over 15 years. I have seen many vets in my pet sitting service. None can compare. Melrose has done everything from simple things like shots to major surgery on my animals and it has always been the best care! There are several office staff people so you never have to wait long and they will find an answer immediately for you no calling you back at the end of the day. Dr. Richieri is very knowledgeable & does not run unnecessary tests. He knows what test to do but does not hesitate to refer you to a specialist if he feels it is beyond his scope. He is competitively priced with vets in the area but he gets right to the problem so you don't end up spending a fortune. As far as the 1st person's review goes, we can't know the full story however I bet based on their own admission that the break was bad, that the splint did not do the proper job of healing the leg completely and Dr. Richieri will not do something if it is not done correctly. I rescued a dog who had been thrown from a vehicle and completely broke both bones very severely in the front leg and required a very expensive device w/ pins going through the leg to keep it immobilized and Dr. Richieri worked with me on that financially as well. I know for a fact, that if he recommended a specialist, then it was necessary for a proper healing. You can cut corners to save money, but it will not be the proper solution. Dr Richieri has been a vet for many years and has the experience.

I had taken my pets to this vet a few times. My cat broke his leg, and I took him in. The doc looked at the leg after the xray was taken and said that to repair it was going to cost 'a few thousand dollars' for a specialist. after a few hours worth of tears, i decided to get a second opinion. The 2nd vet basically laughed when i told them the story. they said the break was bad, but could easily be mended with a splint...(that didnt cost a few thousand dollars)...Overall, get a second opinion..
