Finally an honest Mechanic shop
I found Miramar Automotive by using YELP (sorry), but their reviews were spot on. Rich & Ray were honest (even with the bad news they had for me). They worked within my skin tight budget & were polite & professional throughout the whole process. They were also less expensive than several other shops. I've finally found an honest shop & even though my truck is a clunker, I know I have someone to trust to fix it.

Best in town
I've been going to Miramar Automotive for about four years now and it just keeps getting better. The never feed me tons of crap like the rest of the shops do and when it comes down to the cost of the repair I always have money left to spend for family time. If you don't know now you know. That's Miramar Automotive in a nutshell. Ray was very helpful over the phone gave me a reasonable quote right over the phone no hassell or questions asked.

New to San Diego, But Not New to Cars
I ran an auto shop for about 10 years but I got out of auto repair a few years ago. I'm new to San Diego so I was trying to find a place close to work to have my car serviced. I heard about Miramar Auto from a co worker. This place is like a blast from the past. The owner Richard, has run this place for some 30 years. I could tell right away that this guy really knows his stuff. He's very old school, fixes cars because he loves to. Let me tell you, from someone who used to run a shop, this is a pretty good place. I will bring my cars here.

Honest Report
Very friendly staff and they do their work quick which was nice. I feel the labor was a little overpriced but worth it. What got me was that the recommended repairs were way overpriced (after research), and my engine seemed out of order. Bolts were missing and my alarm no longer works. Other than that i wont have a full review until i take it to another shop for an opinion. where i stand right now is that i wont go back unless another shop or 2 confirm that i need what they recommended. such is the responsibilities of getting your car fixed by unknown places: trial and error. I noticed on here that they only respond to negative reviews, that's why i wanted to be honest i have no grudge, i'm new in town, but i feel like i could find a better shopbut ty for the quick work guyz!

Rip Off Shop
I have been a customer of Miramar Auto for over 13 yrs; 2 cars needing 5-6 major repairs (Timing belt, major wheel/axle repair, etc) and 2-3 minimal repairs (oil change, replace brake pads, etc). I have never felt ripped off by them until twice in the the past 6 months. Previously I felt I was getting a good repair at a good price w/ them. Now I KNOW I am making somebody's vette or boat payment each time I go there. W/in the past 6-mos I have taken the car there twice. On each occasion, I have been overcharged and treated by staff there as if I am stupid and cannot tell I am being now ripped off. When I pointed out that the cost of my last two repairs-a front axle rebuild and a clutch repair-together added up to about the current value of my vehicle, the owner laughed and said "Yeah, you're probably right." 6-mos ago I brought in the car for preventative maint and told the owner I did not want to spend an arm/leg on repairs. He winked and said, "We'll work something out." This later translated to a 2% discount on repairs (on a bill over $1000). Big Whoop!! Most currently I was offered a 5% discount on a $1000 repair bill; a $50 discount. When I asked if there were other discounts avail, the owner could only find an addditional 2% discount- a coupon deal for new custs, then griped because I didn't bring in a physical coupon. I say there are plenty of other AAA rated shops in mira mesa, possibly with less expensive boat or mortage pmts and want ur biz.

Kevin, after 13 years as a customer of mine I just wanted to say I’m very sad you chose this venue to speak. I would’ve hoped if you had problem with me that you would’ve chosen to speak to me personally. But since you won’t return my calls and emailed me to leave you alone I thought I would reply here. I realize you and Heidi have fallen on hard times by both of you being out of work. We’re seeing that everyday. The economy is rough on everyone right now. But just because you want a cheaper price for something AFTER you agreed to the price doesn’t mean we can just start hacking off chunks of money for the job. You were offered the same AAA discount that all AAA shops give. AAA shops are held to a higher standard which means not taking shortcuts and using premium parts. It seems to me that you should’ve never agreed to the price beforehand and chose to go somewhere that charged more to your liking. You stated we ripped you off. So I called 3 other AAA shops in the area and found we were all within $40 of being the same for that repair. You also stated that you were making someone’s Vette, a boat payment or high mortgage payment. I don’t own a Vette or a boat and have lived in the same house since 1989. I’m sorry you were offended by my laugh when you said the repair was more than the car was worth. I was just trying to lighten a very tense mood. I too just spent more to repair my 1998 Crown Victoria then it was worth. Cars are not like houses, they don’t hold their value. Good cars should be viewed as reliable transportation not investments. Labor cost and parts will continue to rise as your car becomes worth less. I’m sorry you’re hurt Kevin. But don’t forget you still have your 1 year nationwide warranty on that repair. Good luck and I hope things improve for you and Heidi in the near future.
