I typically love to use National Rental car. I travel frequently, and often rent from airport sites. I love that as a National frequent renter I can just walk up and choose from a line of cars and go. I usually get very nice cars for excellent prices this way. This time, I needed a full size SUV, so I had to pay the premium amount. When I picked up the SUV, it was noticeably more worn and not as clean as typical rentals, and it had over 40,000 miles on it. It ran fine, but when I returned it, the lady said there were pet hairs, and I would need to pay a $75 cleaning fee because their vacuum wasn't good enough to get the pet hairs. I asked her to show me, because the interior looked better upon return than when I received it. There were a few very hard to find pet hairs in the car. We have dogs, and the hairs come off our shoes and bags and get into the car, but it wasn't enough to warrant a $75 cleaning fee. I took it down the street to a full service car wash, and the attendant there couldn't believe they would charge for that because it was so clean. They vacuumed anyway, but upon return to National, the lady still wanted to charge the fee. Unbelievable. In the end she didn't, but now I'm very disappointed in National. Note, this location also represents other rental companies as well (ie Alamo).
