OK CAFE

First of all, I would like to say that I am a southernerand, overall, it was a descent experience and my son enjoyed himself.Now to my review:My child chose this place for his 10th birthday dinner. I had the BBQ sandwich, black eye peas, greens and cornbread muffin. Dessert was the chocolate cake. The sandwich was okay and the peas and cornbread were good. Though the greens were good, they had too many stems on them. But the real reason I am writing this review is the chocolate cake.Now I have a BIG sweet tooth and I am a baker. I took my cake to go. When I got home and began to eat it, I was very disappointed. It was cold, hard, and lacked good taste. It was not fresh or moist. I have had better cake at Piccadilly.

You have got to be kidding almost 5 stars?! This place is proof that Southerners will eat anything you put in front of them. I too have had the "chicken pot pie;" this is really chicken soup with a crouton. Yesterday I had to attend a meeting at this place and ordered biscuits and gravy (how do you screw this up?); I have had better biscuits and gravy at Cracker Barrel! The food here is very basic and lackluster; just what Southerners like. For those of you who have traveled, experienced life and know what good food is, you will be disappointed by the mediocrity of the food and ambiance. OK Cafe survives, much to the dismay of anyone north of the Mason-Dixon Line, by its overrated reputation among Southerners period! In simplistic terms don't bother....

We had out-of town friends passing through today who wanted "Atlanta Cuisine." We reluctantly suggested OK Cafe, mostly due to it's convenience from I-75. It had been 4 years since our last less-than-impressive experience here so we thought we would give it another try. We quickly regretted the decision.This is not a family friendly restaurant. We were shocked to discover that there was no children's menu. Nor are there any changing tables in the restrooms. We had our children split a plate and had to ask for extra plates. Surely the server should have anticipated this. We requested a high-chair from the host/hostess, but did not receive one until long after we had been seated and had to ask our server. And, it was a dirty booster seat that only further crowded the tiny booths.The food is average. I ordered (the overpriced) Chicken Pot Pie. It's a puffed pastry on top of a soupy creamed-chicken base. Nothing special. My wife had the grouper sandwich and fries and was not impressed with either. The Sweet Potato chips (appetizer -- WAY overpriced) were greasy and arrived AFTER our main dishes. Our two older children (9 and 7) were seating a booth right next to ours with our friends three children (ages 7, 5 and 4). That in itself was not a problem, but the server had the nerve to clear the childrens' plates without asking the parents if they were finished or if we would like a box. My son happened to be in the restroom and said he was not done.There are too many good places in Atlanta to get southern cuisine at a reasonable price with great service. The OK Cafe is NOT one of them.The prices are NOT low, contrary to a previous review.

The OK cafe should change their name to the Fantastic cafe, because that's how our experience was. The food is really good and the service is exceptional. To top it all off, the prices are really low. You can get a great meal for 2 for $40 or less.
