Should have stayed on the plane..., 8/10/2007

After my wife and I survived an 11 hour flight from Europe with 3 kids under the age of 4, the ride home was supposed to be the easy part. When the limo wheezed upon start, I thought "Uh, oh..." Sure... enough, 10 min later it died in the middle of The Strip, forcing us to scramble for air conditioned shelter in 110F heat. Amazingly, when the replacement was ready, the driver didn't offer a discount. As we struggled to load our now wailing kids, we "suggested" that maybe this one should be on the house. The driver said his manager only authorized a 1-hour min charge (equals 33% off). Guess they figured we were over a barrel and wouldn't bail out a second time (correct). What's worse is the replacement driver was about to go off shift and dumped our baggage next to the car while we rushed the kids inside, since he was in a hurry to leave (guess he already knew his tip was forfeit). As a local, I'm continually amazed by the efforts of some companies in this town to wring out every cent.
