Unprofessional
Parker's Plumbing of Newnan, Georgia came to my home recently for an estimate on a water heater. He was approx. $900.00 higher that my other estimate so I went with the less expensive company. No big deal.
I decided to have some other plumbing work done and thought I would give Parker's Plumbing another opportunity. I scheduled an appointment well in advance, purchased supplies and took a day off work. When the owner came to my home he was so fixated on the fact that I used another contractor for the water heater he could not focus on the current job. After only three minutes he said, "Get the company who installed the water heater to do your work. I'm not going to fool with you." While he did not use profanity, he was nothing short of nasty. He and his buddy jumped in their truck and stormed off.
I'm in sales. My customers buy some of my products and buy don't buy others. It's the nature of business. A true professional would have said, "Sir, I'm sorry I fail to earn your water heater business. Hopefully your experience today will be so good that you will always call on me for your future needs." Use Parker's plumbing at your own risk. You do not want someone like this in your home.

I was wrong in my approach to this situation and I called Mr. Henderson and apologized to him. I, also, offered to come back out at his convenience and take care of the plumbing job he needed at that time at no cost. We, I thought, cleared the air and the conversation ended on good terms.
Mr. Henderson is correct, in the fact, that I was underbid on the tankless water heater installation job. The amount he stated they charged was at a price below my materials cost for the complete job? Also, losing a job for this and the following reasons are a big deal to me.
Yes, after seeing that someone else installed a tankless water heater for him I did ask who had done the work for him? He told me who and the cost. I then ask him why he had chosen to not call the same company? I don’t think that is an unfair question. It’s the answer, I guess, that got to me. He stated that when he called the other company they informed him that they do not do plumbing. (What?)
Here’s the thing: the State of Georgia says that water heater installation is to be performed by a licensed plumber. I have taken the time, and cost and great pride in receiving and maintaining my master plumber’s license. Also, the other contractor that underbid me is performing a job without concern for the consumer’s protection and performing this job illegally. If something catastrophic had/would happen (i.e.) house is flooded by improper installation, gas explosion, not only would the “non-plumbing company” installer’s insurance company deny the claim, so would the home owner’s. Their reasoning would be the home owner’s neglect to use a licensed and insured plumbing contractor.
Again, I am sorry for my attitude with Mr. Henderson. I have worked hard to maintain a good character and do professional quality work in my community as a trusted and fair contractor. I feel that I have accomplished this, for the most part, by the many satisfied repeat customers.
I, encourage, all consumers, for your protection to always ask contractors if they are properly licensed and insured. You can, also, go to the Secretary of the State of Georgia’s website to verify that they do in fact hold a current license.
