My taste in Italian food tends toward the simple, uncomplicated entrees that remind me of my childhood spent in Rhode Island, surrounded by Italian friends and many Italian restaurants. I enjoy a nice dish of pasta with meatballs or sausage, or an order of baked ravioli, lasagna or the like. However, those kinds of meals can be the most difficult to find done well out here in Orange County. The tendency seems to be to try and "dress things up", or cheapen out, adding too much breadcrumb, overly complicated sauces or even carrot chunks to them. We were referred to Peppino's by a neighbor some years ago, and have been loyal customers of their restaurants since, initially the Rockfield location. However we live close to the Towne Center location so have been patronizing that one since it opened. The food is excellent, always fresh and consistent, very good bread and rolls as well. I enjoy a plate of angel hair with a split, one meatball and one sausage. The meatballs are large, with a firm texture and excellent flavor, served with a complimentary, light bodied sauce. The sausage is always excellent, slightly sweet and not heavy or greasy. Their ravioli and lasagna is superb as well. We've had dinner there with family members and friends on several occasions, and they've ordered many items from their diverse menu, including chicken marsala, linguini with clams, and various pizzas, and always been pleased and complimentary to the food. It's a good value for the money also.
