These people make me regret buying our home. It appears that their sole purpose is to waste money sending senseless reminders, and look for ways to fine you and help fund their overinflated budget. $7000+/year to cut the grass at the sign and pay for like 7 street lights is ridiculous. Our S/D is in foreclosure and only 10 of 30 homes built. It's senseless to try and keep the association going, then have them use the money to send you reminders and fine you. The inspectors are not competent. You don't inspect after 4 days of continuous rain, then send letters out complaining that my grass needs to be cut less than 24 hours after the rain stops.
