These guys work on our family of cars, they are friendly, good mechanics, will admit when wrong or not sure (can't say that about anywhere else i have tried) and even gave me a lift home when i was pregnant and needed to drop off the car !!!!

I got stranded in San Rafael so I took my 85 Isuzu pickup to R+I on recommendation. The mechanic there, Sam, said he was absolutely sure the problem was with the clutch, that it needed to be replaced and that there was about $1000 of work to be done. But he wasn't able to explain the problem to my satisfaction. It smelled fishy, so I drove the truck (very slowly) all the way to to my regular mechanic in SF. Without even looking under the hood, he told me to change the air filter, which I did. Now the truck runs fine again. My question is: was Sam just totally out to lunch, or was he trying to have me do work that I didn't really need. In either case it was a waist of time and money. Don't go to this place if you can help it!
