Complex Gastroenterology Issues
Communication, among the Gastroenterology Team (if you can call it that), is very poor and many struggles ensued in an attempt to acquire a better quality of care. The Gastroenterology Team specialists, dependent on whom you spoke to, had varied recommendations for our child's care (it is my understanding teams should communicate with one another, therefore, why the differences of opinion)? Referrals to specialists/hospitals outside RCHSD and communication between specialists/hospitals was non existent (we were told it is not the way RCHSD operates). If your child has a rare gastrointestinal illness, DO NOT take your child to RCHSD as it may cost your child his/her life (please note: UCSD Medical Center is no better). If a physician/hospital is unwilling to contact other specialists outside their hospital, it is evident to me they are not working in the best interest of the children. My recommendation for rare gastrointestinal care: UCLA Medical Center. One last note, PLEASE ensure a family member is always present with your child at RCHSD and ask questions as intervention can also save your child's life. The RCHSD nursing staff is EXCELLENT, however, that is the only positive to RCHSD gastrointestinal care.
