I joined this gym for the personal training. I was lead to believe the session was 45 minutes but it was really only 30. Not long enough to see any real results. Most of the treadmills are broken.... Either the TV doesn't work or the treadmill itself doesn't start. When I mentioned this to the manager, I got nothing but excuses. They have very few free fitness classes. Most of them are extra $$$$$. For what they charge at this gym for the monthly fee, training fee, and fee for any extra classes you may want to take, it should be pristine. Your money would be better spent elsewhere.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »

The best part of the of the gym is the friendly front desk staff and that it is extremely clean. Great week end hour but horrible weekend hours. Sales person Mike on the other hand hasn't said a word to me in the year since the day I began working out there. A real downside to this gym is the business practices of management who can't seem to meet published deadlines/announced opening dates after losing there previous downtown Raleigh lease. The Glenwood location can take 5 minutes just to get turned around on busy road way at one of the near stop lights. For such a large space this location can still feel cramped no matter how long it takes you to get there. Forget parking after five o'clock. This feeling can be due to the practice of the trainers who are over possessive of equipment. This makes the annual up-grade fee a scam if they hide equipment like cattle bells from general use. One trainer (silver haired guy) in particular works out a group of older gentlemen in the slowest manner possible monopolizing whole areas of the gym floor. His standard practice is to put his drink on one machine, have a client on another, and then a bag in between two more machines. This is highly disruptive for persons trying to get in and out of the gym in a reasonable time frame and/or focusing the same body area in which there is limited equipment.
The owner has integrity issues-he lied about the closing and reopening of a new downtown location. All he wanted was for the downtown members to go to the other two locations. This place has steriod trainers who all have shaddy pasts and have felon criminal historys.
If you do sign up here, do NOT sign up for a personal training contract. You will be charged for any missed sessions, but their trainers will not suffer any consequences, regardless of how many times the trainer cancels/no-shows. I have never seen such unprofessionalism. I am on trainer #3 because their trainers are so terrible and they do not require any standards of them and they will not let me out of my contract. When my contract is up, I will anxiously be going elsewhere!!! I wish someone had warned me!
This gym is pathetic - they can't keep good staff and I have seen signs in the gym offering gym rewards/benefits when members show good internet reviews for the site! Beware of positive reviews and watch your money with this place! Don't get too attached to the good people working there because the bad will drive them away!
For RF - it is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. There is no concern about customer's suggestions or complaints. Beware of autodraft - can't be cancelled easily. Same with PT contracts. The management changes frequently and no one knows the procedures or rules. They will do whatever they can to get your money and whatever they can to avoid hearing any complaints or concerns. I wish the original staff were there - it was a good gym then.
Classes are good; equipment works. Staff are awful; poor management. They all make NUMEROUS mistakes (e,g., accidentally taking money from my bank account) and offer little more than a lame apology filled with defensiveness. Staff turnaround is high - and they progressively become less attentive and skilled with each new "batch." Hate it. Not worth half the money.
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!I thought the gym industry would have learned from others mistakes but Rapid Fitness will rip you off in a heartbeat, especially when it comes to personal training contracts. DO NOT SIGN ANY PERSONAL TRAINING CONTRACT. It takes an act of God to cancel the auto renew. They make it sound easy to cancel and rush you through the sign up process. I didn't even want the training in the first place since I was recovering from cancer and not sure what I could handle. When I signed the contract I said absolutely NO AUTO RENEW, Then my trainer had me sign an auto renew release form 30-60 days before my initial 3 month contract and said everything was taken care of. THEN..my credit card gets charged $200 a month.BEWARE!!The management of Rapid Fitness has no concept of integrity or basic customer service.
I workout at Rapid Fitness on Glenwood and Downtown, both clubs are fantastic! I take group fitness classes and get the best workout while having so much fun. I've met a lot of friends through the classes as well. I especially love taking classes from Naomi and Ellen. Their passion for what they do shines through each and every time!
I have had nothing but pleasant experiences at the North Ridge location. They have helped me from the beginning and I am seeing the results I had been lacking in going to other gyms (which were overpriced as well). I would like to specifically give kudos to the personal training staff. I am working with Rich right now and he has helped me to lose 20 pounds already. Overall, a great experience and a great value.
Rapid Fitness off of Glenwood continues to provide me with horrible service. I was told if I move that I would be let out of my membership charges and they continue to charge me 4 months after I provided them with documents showing I moved. This is the worse experience ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have always been the anti gym kinda person because I have everything at home and did not like the whole gym atmosphere. That all changed when a friend brought me to NR.When I walked in I met the manager who was very friendly, treating me like an old friend, he showed me around and introduced me to people at the gym even members so that when I came back I would know people. Because of his great service I have made a lot of close friends at the gym and love going there. the group fitness is awesome instructors are great. The gym has people of all shapes and sizes and ages but it does not matter because everyone is soo friendly. I would highly recommend joining this gym. I love it.
Not sure whats up with "freddygirl" but I thoroughly disagree with the earlier review. The North Ridge location is my regular gym; I go there at least 5-6 days a week, and I am a big class junkie. I have never had any billing problems, and what is on my contract is exactly what I have been billed. I tend to notice that most people who have problems with their billing are the people that don't read the contract to begin with. The gym is on the small side, but I really like the atmosphere and the people who work there! The manager there never fails to be extremely friendly and helpful, and I can definitely see the improvements that he has made since he joined the team. The staff is really nice, and a few even know me personally (granted, I come a lot!) The gym is well taken care of, clean, and expanding! "freddygirl" maybe it's not your age or shape, but your personality that is the problem ...
They recently "downsized" their best asset at their North Ridge location and brought in a sales manager who won't interact with customers and won't even look at the older or heavier members. Apparently it hurts his eyes to look at anything not pretty enough. So if you're not one of the "beautiful ones", don't expect to have your business appreciated. The business bonehead who made this decision doesn't seem interested in explaining anything to any of the disappointed and angry club members. I am locked into a 1-year contract, but have promised management there WILL NOT be a renewal. After hearing some other horror stories about people who have tried to get out, I'm scared that I'll have to close out my bank account and wreck my credit just to be free of them. That being said, the front desk staff, the chiropractic staff and the personal training staff are great. It's just a shame that the management that employs them stinks.
