My husband and I signed a contract with Robert Klob almost 2 years ago...it will be 2 years next month and we still don't have finalized plans that the city will approve or permit. He has been terrible at communicating, and responding to e-mails and phone calls. He has one excuse after another for not meeting deadlines! I would NEVER recommend him as a designer. When we started the process, we were so excited about building our dream home...and now we are nothing but stressed, upset, and doubting whether or not we should move forward. We feel like the whole project is jinxed. Stay away from Robert Klob designs. We have invested thousands of dollars and wasted two years with nothing to show for it right now!

We contracted with this person/company to design our ICF house, we provided him with detailed design requirements, had surveys completed, and even sat down with him to discuss the design. In 18 months, he could not even deliver a basic home layout that met our requirements and could not answer many of our questions on critical topics, such as passive solar requirements and use of earth tubes. There were also long periods where he would not answer his phone or e-mails unless I took a negative tone in my message. When he would respond, he always had another excuse. We have since fired him and are seeking legal action for the return of our money.

In defense of Mr Klob, he did a design for us a few years back, tweaked a " builder grade" home into something really special. We have had nothing but compliments on the design of the home, the layout etc and when we went to sell a month ago, it was on the market for 6 weeks. Yes, 6 weeks in a terrible real estate market. It's Robert Klob designs that sold our home and made it a unique, contemporary design appealing to those seeking the better things in life. I am not a ghost reviewer, nor do I think that a highly ethical businessman like Robert would ever stoop to such practices. If you have any doubts, please feel free to contact me. Terry Watson Ps...as a matter of fact, I am having him design our next project, that's how much I liked his work.

I did not listen to the reviews which was a big mistake. This guy is a joke! He's very outgoing and will sell you anything but then won't deliver and will lie to you over and over and over. It's amazing that he's still in business. Don't fall for his stories and hire someone else.

Unfortunately our experience with Robert has turned out to be much the same as the other negative posters. After about a month into our project he pretty much stopped responding to our e-mails and phone calls, dates promised to get us updated drawings to review went by without any contact from Rob. It's really too bad since I believe Rob does have the ability to be a good home designer. He is also very personable and easy to work with, right up until he decides to abandon you. Now I believe the economy has basically turned him into a con man (at least I hope for his sake that he hasn't always been this way), telling potential clients what they want to hear to get them to sign his service contract with the non-refundable retainer fee. My advice to anyone considering using Robert Klob Designs would be to force him to amend his service agreement to remove the word non-refundable from the payment schedule AND to put drop dead dates dictating to Rob when each phase of the design process must be completed in order to get paid. If he's not willing to do this I would take it as a sign his intention is to con you as well. One more thing, if you look at the dates of the positive reviews for Robert they are suspiciously close to one another, all within one week back in 2007, and TWO in one day! Rob is a smart guy so it would be very easy for me to believe that he ghost wrote all of them. Just something else to consider.

Totally agree with last poster - we had same experience - came off strong in the first meeting and it went downhill from there. For 30 days we heard nothing... then we started calling and emailing, no response. We had to go to the office which a lot of times was locked and "catch" him there to get a status. All staff was gone leaving just him. He failed to meet our criteria given in the first meeting. Getting a return status email or phone call was impossible. Before we hired him we laid out our time frame and asked him if he could meet it and if he had time to devote. He agreed. Well he missed the deadline by 6 months. It took a year, for plans that should have taken 6 months. What he writes about himself on his website is a joke! There was no "team", certainly no communication. Once under way with construction he was contacted and advise a portion of his plan did not build. He offered no solutions, did not even come look. His plans just did not work.

Similar to the previous post, Who are you? I am not aware of any project that was partially built. I have designed over 3,000 projects during 25 years and I don't know of any that were only partially constructed. Please email or leave some specifics on here - a last name would be helpful. It is easy to be negative and anonymous. Lastly, there are multiple reasons why deadlines get extended. I admit, sometimes it takes longer than anticipated to design or have engineering done and sometimes it is also with the cities and their review time. Most often it is with clients that continuously change their mind or want "just one more adjustment". Something that we typically don't charge for, regardless of the amount of "adjustments" are made. Please Contact my office so we can possibly resolve this.
This guy came on strong to start...then after he took our money, he didn't deliver. Wouldn't return phone calls (he was always "with a client"), wouldn't return emails, did not show up for scheduled appointments, then took the original hand drawn floor plans of our historic house we let him look at and never returned them! Beware of this guy. He is NOT licensed in any way. We hired him to design an addition, and were dumb enough to pay him and ended up with nothing but heartache.

I am sorry but I do not even know who you are. If you feel that I have "wronged" you, please get in contact with me directly (phone & email are on this site). While due to the economy I have numerous projects on hold for different reasons, I have never "taken the money and ran" as your post implies. Furthermore, my office is open 5-6 days a week during normal business hours, if I have something that belongs to you, I welcome you to come by and get it.
Our house design, functionality, and lot configuration are not standard, so we were fortunate to find Rob. He listened to our desires & calculated the restrictions to transform them into an exciting, realistic design. He added special touches that present a "wow" factor that most architects could never offer. We enjoy working with Rob and will invite him & his team to join us the day we celebrate completion.

This guy Robert Klob, has the gift of art and design. (and a good sense of humor) The best thing is that besides talent, he is thorough. His plans and detail are impressive even to those in "the business". And he doesn't have the usual 'attitude' that so many of his colleagues have. I would hire him again 'in a heartbeat'.

Its easy to find a custom home designer or architict, but its not always easy to work with them afterwards. We found the Robert Klob Design team not only fit our budget, but was intuitive and responsive to our needs. The service is there with you from concept to final product. We are very satisfied with our choice.

Robert Klob Designs is a top quality design firm in a town of sub-standard design firms. RKD offers their clients fantastic services at fantastic prices. I have met few people in this industry with Robert's knowledge and integrity. I have been working with Robert for almost 6 years and plan to work with him for many more.
