My father passed last Friday and we went with Allen's because we were told they work well with the VA and they belonged to my MIL church. Cost was a little factor but if I knew now what I know I would have paid triple. He is getting cremated and I felt strongly that I needed to see him again. But unfortunately I felt as if they were holding him hostage until I paid them the $195 ransom to see him one more time. Unbelievable. And every time we asked for something they made sure it had some fee of some sort to it. I just never believed in my wildest dreams that that could be allowed. He was a person for gods sake. Needless to say I will never recommend them I told my mother in law to pass them a message for me and in your time of need when you feel your worst and you are lookIng for comfort here they are charging your tab. I will NEVER recommend them.

I, too, chose Allen because their rates were a just little cheaper than the rest.. I simply needed their services to transport already prepared ramains that were coming in from another funeral home from another state and to hold the remains there and transport the remains to the church and cemetary. My experience was that there were too many people trying to handle the arrangements and the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. I initially called in from another state and was given the charges over the phone. On my first visit to their facility, I was not given a copy of the bill. On the second visit, we went in simply to take care of the bill. The original person I had dealt with was busy with someone else so a second person came in and we asked a question (unrelated to the bill) that she could not answer so the funeral director came in and "out of the blue", we were accused of questioning their charges. Then, as we were going over the charges with the funeral director, he became angry when I asked what one of the charges was for. Being Executor of the will, I simply wanted to know what we were paying for. After that, we found we were being charged for a viewing service we had not ordered or even talked about. In addition, they placed the obituary to the newspaper which I had carefully written to keep the charges down and they took the liberty of adding a plug for the funeral home at our expense.
