Sometimes you can tell the nature of a business as you walk up to it. In the case of Sabri Guven Fine Jewelry in Alpharetta, you walk up on a red carpet and enter into a lavish interior with plenty of examples of the best jewelry you can get.
The eponymous owner, Sabri Guven, built the imposing building that now stands at the corner of Old Milton Parkway and Haynes Bridge Road as the new home for his impressive collection of precious gems and metals where they can meet every need, from.. design and repair to appraisals and engraving.
As a 12-year-old in Istanbul, Turkey, Guven began learning the jewelry business when he worked in a factory making jewels for other businesses. Showing a remarkable entrepreneurial spirit, Guven opened his own factory at age 15 and eventually a retail store to sell his own jewelry.
In 1985, Guven moved his knowledge of the trade to Atlanta. He was based in Gwinnett until 2004, when he moved it to Kimball Bridge Road. Now, he has his own custom building to house his wares, right in the middle of Alpharetta.
"A lot of my clients came from Alpharetta to Gwinnett," Guven said, explaining the move. "I love the people here."
After such a successful career, Guven has only a few simple words to explain it: "Honesty, integrity and the best service," he said. For a man who just opened a new business in a new building after such a depressing economy, those words must carry some weight.
"We're obviously doing something right," laughed Guven.
I brought in a Movado Tungsten Carbide watch to have the battery replaced and the band repaired where pins had come out. I had brought my extra links that came with the watch as well. Asked for them to hold out 2 links as they were extra. I was quoted $75 for the service and that it would take two days and be available on Monday 5/15. When I cam to pick up the watch they had put the wrong number of links in, did not change the battery, and the watch was still broken. They tried to fix the watch band, and failed again at that, after being forced to wait for an hour in the store they said they had it fixed. less than an hour after I got home, the watch band had broke again. I called the store and let them know i would be in Monday for a refund on the service. When I came in the owner refused to refund the service unless I gave him all documentation and receipts. I was forced to leave with a broken watch and out $64 for services that were performed so poorly they didn't last an hour. Obviously they have no idea on how to service watches. Very disappointing service, and only ended up in shouting matches with the owner who should learn how to deal with issues in a much better way. I believe he was afraid that I would post proof online.. or use to sue for the faulty workmanship.

After my father passed away in July I was left an antique gold pocket-watch that had been in the family for 4 generations. I took it to Sabri Guven, as I was told over the phone that they might be able to find a buyer for it or at least give me an estimate of its value. They had the watch for over a month before they finally got the estimate for me. During this time I called every week for an update - no one from the store ever took the time to proactively contact me with an update or to explain the reason for the delay. They offered me $25 (previous estimates from other dealers had ranged from $300-$1200) for the 98-year-old watch, which I refused. Upon arriving home, I found that the watch would no longer wind, and thus could no longer be sold as "functional", greatly devaluing it. I brought it back to Sabri Guven for repair. Again, I waited a month with no word. I contacted them and they stated that it would be too expensive for them to repair, despite the fact that the watch broke while in their possession. I would advise against ANYONE doing business with this company under any circumstances. The only thing that I managed to get from Sabri Guven was damage to an antique watch and a wasted 2 months.

I don't live in the area, but placed an order for a luxury watch over the phone. They are an authorized dealer, and I got the watch for almost half of what I would have spent elsewhere. I spoke with several of the people who work there, and they were all extremely courteous, professional, and helpfuI. I would do business with Sabri Guven again in a second! Highly, highly recommend!!

DISHONEST! I took gold jewelry to sell. They took the jewelry to the back to 'test' it. They came back and told me that a heavy bracelet I had was 10kt. The person also said that none of my jewelry had markings on it. Luckily I took the jewelry to another jeweler. This jeweler told me that the heavy bracelet was 14kt and that someone had rubbed out the 14kt marking. Sabri Guven had taken the marking off of the bracelet and leid telling me that it was 10kt. The difference was 500 dollars.
