When our miniature poodle was diagnosed with lymphoma, Dr. Smallwood and the entire staff at St. Francis was wonderful. She outlined the various treatment options available to us, explained how much each treatment series would be and they have been nothing short of marvelous to us and our dog, Sally. They took the time to really get to know us and they treated our dog as if it were their own. I can't say enough good things about them!

Our first impression when we took our 6 month old puppy to St Francis for spay & removal of infected dew claw, was "Wow, what a nice facility!" We were greeted warmly by the staff and so was our puppy. Everything that was going to be done that day was explained to us by Dr. Newton and all of our questions were answered in a very friendly and professional manner. We felt very comfortable leaving our puppy at St Francis for her surgeries. When we picked her up later that day Dr. Newton explained her follow-up care, meds and gave written instructions for us. We were told to give them a call if there were any questions or problems. The facility is very clean and pet friendly. We would recommend St Francis to friends and family. Dr. Newton is a caring and compassionate doctor. So nice to know that St Francis is available if we ever need their srvices again. Thank you to Dr. Newton and all the doctors and staff at St Francis!

I have a toy poodle that had to have surgery at St. Francis in Nov. 2009. He is my heart and soul my baby boy. We got up one morning and Teddy could not move he was paralysis. I came to St. Francis in tears and no one else to turn to for help. Our vet did not know what else to do but to refer us to them. I was a wreck and was in no way going to give up on him. Dr Newton welcome me with open arms and told me her opinion, and then let me make the choice. If I had gone with others opinions my Teddy would not be here today. Thanks to St. Francis I still have Teddy and he can run and play, all I wanted was someone to give me hope and tell me let's try this. He is doing GREAT and still has a lot of life in him. He may be a dog but to me he is my kid. Thanks so much to St. Francis and Dr. Newton. Penny Tracy 2010

Dr. Smallwood and her staff really know their stuff. Our beagle had x-rays and several sonograms done to monitor her congestive heart failure. During one of these checks we found signs of lymphoma. We were giving great treatment advice and no pressure to do anything we weren't comfortable with. The bills we have had have been surprisingly low for the level of technology used. We recommend them to everyone who needs a specialist and will certainly continue to use then when we need to.

We are blessed to have St. Francis so close. They have treated three of our Yorkies in the past 4 years with such care and love. I have complete faith in their services and treatment; Dr. Smallwood is wonderful. I have recommended her to a friend; I don't typically recommend as folks don't usually have the same feelings that you do. Not a problem with Saint Francis and Dr. Smallwood and staff - my friend loved them as well. You cannot go wrong in trusting this facility and the staff.

Dr. Smallwood is brilliant, sensitive and caring and I would recommend her to anyone with a seriously ill animal. With her excellent care, my Basenji lived to be 14 after being told at UGA that he probably would not live past 2 years of age. Now my Whippet is under her care and also doing very well. The facility is clean and pleasant and the staff is friendly and helpful. There have been some communication issues and we have experienced problems with getting calls returned, but that seems much improved recently. Regardless, there is no other Vet Specialist that I would use....St. Francis is the best!

My old dog, Charlie was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer 2 1/2 years ago. The prognosis was that with chemotherahpy treatments he'd live from 6 months to 1 1/2 years. With the wonderful loving care from Saint Francis he lived 2 1/2 years ! The chemo never made him sick which was a blessing. Great staff and doctors, I would highly recommend them to anyone with a sick pet.

I have an elderly pet with a heart murmur. Dr. Smallwood's excellent and compassionate care have prolonged his life. In addition, she works well with my regular vet, always keeping him informed of her findings and recommendations. The clinic itself is a delight. The latest technology and competent staff help ensure that my pet will get the care he deserves. It's good to know that Dr. Smallwood is always there to back up my vet and provide the technical exams he cannot provide.

I was thoroughly pleased with the experience I had with my pet at St. Francis Animal Care Center. My Lhasa Apso suffered from chronic ear infections. He had a total ear ablation, removing the ear canals. Dr. Newton performed the surgery. She was very informative during the initial consultation, answering all my questions. I was given a very detailed estimate of charges, which was very accurate as to the actual cost. My dog spent several days in the hospital, and Dr. Newton called me with an update every day. I felt Dr. Newton and the staff genuinely cared about my pet. I would highly recommend their facility.

Dr. Smallwood is great and I have no doubts about her skills & dedication; I know them from L'ville Anim Hosp but administrative procedures & communications tools at St. Francis need better structure. Admins run back/forth to back to get people to take phone calls. Takes days to return phone calls. When I complained to admin she told me they were 'very busy.' Both prescriptions were called in wrong! Luckily I was paid attention and knew what it should be, could have caused catastrophic problems. They need someone to manage admin procedures before pets start paying the price.

I have only good things to say about Dr. Smallwood, who is professional and very responsive to email and phone calls. I trust her with my animals without question. My cat had a procedure done at St. Francis with virtually no recovery time or problems but the exact same procedure done at the regular vet resulted in two additional visits, more meds, and over $160 in follow up when she did not recover well. She still isn't feeling great, after two weeks. When Dr. Smallwood did the procedure, she was back to herself the next day. I would pick Dr. Smallwood, every time. The office is really clean, quiet, and nice and the technology is state of the art. It is not nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. ** Updated to add -- My cat yesterday was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. It is an upsetting diagnosis, but I feel relieved to know that she could not be in better hands.

Everyone at this clinic is very nice. They truly seem to care about your animal while you're there. Their facilities are clean and free of bad orders, but their communication is Lousy(!). In my experiences here, when I've been told they'll call me on a specific date, I don't hold my breath. Inevitably I end-up having to call them the day after that, to maybe I get a return call that day or the next. When it's my (4-legged) baby we're dealing with, that stinks! And out of simple professionalism and courtesy, if you say you're going to call with our test results on a Monday (let's say), THEN CALL ON MONDAY! Don't make me call you on Tuesday! This unfortunately has happened more than once. If fact, I've been there now three times and it's happened every time, in one form or fashion. And this I promise will be the last time. Sorry but just being nice doesn't cut it.

Unfortunately, our dog was very ill and our regular vet couldn't determine what caused the problems. She had been bitten by a snake a week earlier and never got back to herself, but she had issues that the vet did not think were caused by the snake bite. She referred us to Saint Francis and I was very impressed all around. The facilities are clean, pleasant and very professional. The exam rooms are comfortable and have PCs to access the dog's record. They even put a photo of our dog at the top of the record. They have a deep staff including a radiologist and two surgeons. Our dog is back to feeling like herself. The fees were less than what I expected from a "referral only" vet and I was pleased with the service and personal interest shown by Dr. Smallwood and the other staff.
