San Diego Humane Society and Spca

We had a dog that was left on our front porch. We just couldn't keep her so took her to the humane society. I was able to get her in that day. And was notified when she was adopted. I'm so glad everything worked out.

Ok, so from a pet owners perspective this place is off the hook when it comes to all the features this safehaven this place offers for pets. For starters one entire building is designated for the transition of the shelter pet to a home environment. Now after parking in their generous parking lots for visitors, when you walk in you see their shop, information areas, the doggy day care in the front and the little apartments already adopted critters stay in to acclimate to their new homes. But what you don't see on that half of the property is what's in the back and in the building across the way. This place is well stocked in high tech and high priority staff, equipment and care for animals even beyond what you see. The doggies have two caged in doggie areas that are huge they can play in with trainers and where you can take classes in. The building across is for intake of animals, it comes complete with an entire department of medical and care professionals. In addition to that they have a designated system how they can intake animals - even anonymously - so that there is absolute no excuse for the owner who feels guilty about facing someone when they want to leave pets behind. On the side of that building are double entry kennels stocked with food, bedding and water so that if you are too embaressed about releasing a pet you can go to the Gaines facility anonymously. It is truly a remarkable facility. I have NEVER EVER seen a facility with so many amenities. 247 security too

I am currently taking my puppy here for classes and like everyone else said, you can tell that the people here really do care about animals. The trainers are very knowledgeable and are very friendly. Also I have been in contact with another trainer regarding behavioral issues with my dog and he's been so helpful! Not to the mention the facility is new and HUGE - dog cafe, etc. I love this place!

had to get another cat to keep our other cat company. Spent more time than I had planned looking at all of the wonderful animals. Wanted to take them all but in the end we wound up with a WONDERFUL cat named Edana who has definitely added her specialness to this house!!!
