Hi, I have been using them for years, but in the past 2 days I have an even greater appreciation. My dog Leo became very ill and had severe vomiting. They fit him in even though they didn't have an openings but they recognized that he needed immediate attention (sorry if any of you were pushed back- thx for understanding!) I will never complain about having to wait knowing that they have to make exceptions for emergencies such as this. They invested 4 hrs to get his vomiting under control and ensuring that he was OK to go home. Dr. Sund was wonderful about explaining everything that was going on and very sensitive to how Leo as feeling. I stopped by today to drop off a sample and Dr. Darnell was great also. Even though I didn't have an appt, she stopped what she was doing to go over the results that were available. So appreciated!!

SIVH was wonderful to our kitty (heman). He had 3 major surgeries and they explained everything to us and made us feel very confident. Our kitty was in great hands and it went very well. All the ladies were so friendly and they remembered our names. We felt like family while being in there. I wouldn't take my kitty anywhere else. Dr. Barbara Darnell-Schuber is so knowledgeable and professional. She is so great with animals and you can tell she loves her job. She always made the effort to come and say hi to us and the kitty. She even answered emailed questions that I had about the surgeries. The hospital is good size and the rooms were very clean. In all the experience with them was wonderful. I would highly recommend them to anyone with a pet. You wont be disappointed with this group of doctors and staff.

I have always had very positive experiences at Shelter Island. Her diagnoses with my cats have always been well thought out and I am confident in both her explanation of any procedure as well as her decisions in choice of treatment. Dr. Darnell is not only very obviously intelligent, she's at the top of her game--she continues to learn about the very latest in veterinary science, you can tell she cares about each and every animal that comes through her doors. I looked very hard to find a vet I am this happy with!

Dr. Barbara Darnell is fantastic. She saved my two cats with definitive diagnosis and treatment, all the while demonstrating a care and compassion I've not seen before anywhere. I travel from north to south county without a second thought to keep my animals in her care. Kudos!

We have followed Dr. Darnell from La Mesa to the Sports Arena area, to were she now has her own hospital in Point Loma. She has one client who travels from Temecula. That should tell you what a great doctor she is. She is knowledgeable, informs the clients in detail about their pets' condition, and gives you options on treatments. Great staff too.

The staff is extremely friendly and Dr. Darnell does a great job when tending to my cat. I always feel comfortable when I walk in and don't have to think twice when leaving. I highly recommend that you bring your pet there or at least drop by and speak with someone there.

I can't say enough great words about Dr. Darnell and her staff. Dr. Darnell is a wealth of knowledge and really cares about my pets! She takes the time to explain what is happening, options for treatment and preventative treatment, all the while making my kitties feel comfortable in the *vet* environment. I am grateful to have found such an awesome vet!

The vet I went to for 15 years retired 5 years ago, and I've been vet shopping ever since. Here's what I wanted to find in a vet/vet office: excellent diagnostic skills knowledgeable and flexible in treatment plans competent office and technical assistants Beyond that, I wanted.. ..to see the same vet everytime I go. It's hard enough to establish a good trust relationship without having to do it with 2 or more different vets. ..a vet who remembers me and my cats. ..my vet and the vet's staff to LIKE my cats and genuinely care about their welfare, and not see them as just an income source. ..a vet who would talk to me and EXPLAIN the condition my cats are in and what my options are ..a vet who does not necessarily turn first to the most expensive diagnostic tests possible because they're too busy or lazy to put forth the effort and time to give a thorough examination and ask all the questions that will allow them to arrive at the most likely diagnosis so they can first test for that. ..a vet who is thoughtful of cost ..a vet who treats my cats as they would their own. Dr. Barbara Darnell and her staff hit and sometimes far surpassed the mark on every count. Great vet - great staff. These folks know what they're doing, and they CARE!
