I RECOMMEND SHUMATE! HERE'S WHY:, 11/19/2014

I had the original (well over 20 yrs.old)low quality air conditioning & furnace units for my big two story house. Every summer for the past 5 yrs. the a.c., would conk out, I'd call Shumate and... they'd get it going again. Finally the units gave up the ghost. I got quotes from seven different companies including Shumate. Comparing apples to apples, details to details, Shumate beat them all hands down for high level top-rated units with 14-16 seer, variable speed furnace, electronic programmable thermostats, and ductwork replacement. Shumate had always given me great service, and I was glad they won the job. They showed up promptly, had a supervisor on-site the whole time, installed new Lennox XC14 units for upstairs and downstairs, new furnaces, new ductwork, hauled away my old units and totally cleaned up the area inside and out. I couldn't be happier! The house is always just the perfect temperature, it's virtually silent in its operation, and we have lower utility bills. The best part is Shumate's people. Friendly, courteous and professional. You couldn't ask for better. If you have HVAC issues, let Shumate give you a free quote and expert recommendations. If you do choose Shumate, you'll be very glad you did! I strongly recommend Shumate, and now you know why!

$250 for leak detection, 8/06/2014

$79 for a trip charge is fine. 15 minutes to sniff out a coolant leak at $250 is absurd. Indeed, I requested the leak detection, but was not told up front the cost. Technician did not continue search... after finding leak in furnace, so did not search for leaks in crawl space. Paying essentially $1000/hour to have someone wave a sensor about makes me feel foolish. I have used Shumate a number of times, including whole system replacement. In general, they are reliable and costs are fair and predictable. Not this time.

Went above and beyond replacing two hvac units

I got several quotes to replace the condenser and coil on two hvac units at my home. Shumate was 30-50% less expensive than every one of the other quotes. I almost didn't believe the quote was correct, but it was. The techs came out to replace the units and did a great job. They went above and beyond because they also had to add another breaker box. The techs were really nice and explained everything to me, and the installation itself was better than before, because they improved some things that had been shortcutted by the original builders. And the best part, they didn't even try to get more money out of me. Their job was to put two units in, and they did everything necessary, even what they hadn't planned for, without complaint. I can't recommend this company enough. Great job guys!

Best in Town

The technician, Phil, was fast & thorough. He treated everything like it was his home. Very quick response. Very fair price!! I will continue to use Shumate in the future.

Tech's need to receive more training

We called Shumate because one of our AC units quit working. They came out, tech looked at it and said that "the reversing valve was covered in oil and the system was flat". Recommended that we replace the until. Called another HVAC tech, he found a wire had rubbed a hole in a pipe and let all the freon out. (That was the "oil on the reversing valve".) Less than an hour later - he had us back up and working - for a LOT LESS than the cost of a new unit. Hummmmm- me thinks that tech's need to go to retraining school!!!!

Typical A/C Expectation

I called these guys for a second opinion after I was told I needed a new compressor. The repair guy was very quick to tell me that my compressor was out of warranty, even though I knew it wasn't. He changed his story really quick once I had him pull the paperwork. This is not surprising that they would attempt to screw me. Anyway, I was quoted about $250 more than the first estimate and was also told that I should replace most of the system, blah blah blah of course. Not incredibly happy, but I am glad I got the second opinion.

Excellent service

Shumate has replaced both of my heat pump systems over the past couple of years. Both times, they came on time, did a good job, and cleaned up after themselves. Their price was about 20% lower than the other quotes I received. After the second unit was replaced in May, I found that the previously-replaced unit was not cooling. They came back right away and found that they had inadvertently left a switch "off" when they inspected it. They turned it back on and did not charge for the return visit. Both systems have been working fine since then.

Worst EVER

I called Shumate because they sponsor NPR, so I wanted to support them. My A/C busted on a hot day and it was a bit of an emergency. They couldn't schedule anything for 48 hours. When they finally did show up, the guy was too fat to fit inside the enclosure protecting my units from copper thieves. He then had the gall to complain that there were too many weeds and said that he couldn't do anything until I "hired a gardener" (mind you, my last HVAC tech cleaned the area out for me without complaint). He complained the entire time, did nothing, and then left without fixing the problem. It was a Friday, so I had to suffer the entire weekend before I could get someone else out. I will NOT be using this company ever again.

Great experience

So we had 2 new HVAC systems installed in our house and SHUMATE did great. We had a number of quotes from a ton of companies, and while Shumate wasn't the cheapest, they were very competitive and gave a lot more bang for the buck. They were the only ones out of four companies to notice that our outdoor units were switched by the builder, and that we had a hole in our line to the coils. We even paid another big company to come leak test it, and they said the lines were fine. Anyways, Jeff (sales guy) was great, not pushy, and even came back out to make sure all of the systems were running smoothly free of charge. Excellent experience and we will recommend them to our neighbors.

Best in Atlanta

Furnace broke and Shumate was here right away. Only company to show up on time. Put it in the next day, no more cold for me. Service was better than the 5 star rated companies on Kudzu. Great company!!!

Get more estimates

I requested an estimate for a Trane system and was pushed toward Lennox. The proclaimed experienced consultant spent more time preparing the quote than he did reviewing my system. I commented that I was surprised at how quickly he finished and he said "I knew what you needed before I even came inside". As I stated he kept directing me to a Lennox unit saying the system was comparable AND cheaper. Incorrect information on both statements. I've had other companies come do a "thorough" estimate and will not be using Shumate.

Second Chance?

We used Shumate a couple of years ago and were not impressed. We decided to give them another chance. The technician was late, told us our system was too old and needed to be replaced. We called another company for a second opinion. After replacement of an inexpensive part, our system was back in operation. We will not make the mistake of calling Shumate again.

Custome "No service"

I called these people to get service on my unit. The woman who answered the phone sounded too involved in talking to other people to listen to my call- very rude, as if I were bothering her. she transferred my call directly to a voicemail!! after calling back two ore times, I FINALLY get a service rep, only to tell me that it would be more than a week to look at my system. I strongly suggest looking for a company that actually WANTS to do business!!!

Satisfied Customer

I'm bound to be skeptical when an HVAC company tells me my air conditioning system needs replacing, but when the compressor is 12 years old and the heating system is more than twice that age, it seems foolish to accumulate additional service fees to confirm the obvious, it's time to replace the entire system. I got a quote from Shumate, but I also got quotes from others. The Shumate rep sharpened his pencil and gave me a significantly better price than the competition, including a superior warranty. Installation was scheduled for the next day. The installers seemed very professional. They arrived on time, finished on schedule, and left the work area cleaner than they found it. The real test will be the quality of any required warranty service. -Chuck in Sandy Springs
