Cautionary Tale, 2/05/2010

I went to Southern Vacuum (the only Hoover authorized repair service in the area) to get my vacuum fixed- a vacuum that works perfectly but wouldn’t lock into the upright position. I was told... that I was going to receive a call for the estimate in approximately 5 days. Instead, I had to be proactive and call them myself to find out how much it would be. After a couple of days of not receiving a call from the owner when he was finished, I had to again call them AGAIN just to find out it’s done. Upon picking it up, I was aggravated that the problem still wasn’t fixed when I was testing it out. After them tinkering with it, they told me that the latch (the one they replaced) was not connecting onto the vacuum base properly- and replacing the vacuum base would cost more than the vacuum itself. Luckily and obviously, I wasn’t charged for the new “latch” and repair. However, they did charge me for the “new” vacuum belts that they said was worn down- THAT I NEVER AUTHORIZED! Even if it was or was not worn down, it was shady to repair it without keeping me informed about it until it was time to pay up.

An Utter Failure of Small Business

They don't really care if you are there or if you come back. The guy didn't have the coins to return for one customer’s change. He held up the customer for several minutes hunting for change. Finally, another customer tossed-in some coins just so the rest of us could get waited on. Next, they don't use invoice numbers or parts-order numbers, so they can't keep parts tracking straight. Thus, they failed to get three parts for my 5-year old Hoover (I can find them all over the place online!) after twice the time he thought it would take. So, what’s he do? (1) He puts in a belt that wasn’t for my Hoover; he told me it wasn’t the right belt but that it should work – now a couple of months later, it’s slipping, bad. (2) ***HE PUT SOMEONE ELSE’S OLD DUST CUP FILTER IN MY MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!*** (this was one of the parts he didn’t get). I noticed it immediately when I picked up my machine. This one was near-black! He said, “Well, it’s better than your old one.” I walked out in DISGUST. It STUNK when I got home and vacuumed. And this place is a factory-authorized repair center?? C’mon.

Rip off!

I had to have my vacuum repaired recently. My dog chewed the cord and had to replace the cord. I called Southern Vacuum prior, and asked how much a cord replacement would cost with my specific vacuum; nothing fancy, just a Eureka. I said I was shopping around trying to find the cheapest. They said it would cost no more than $30 to $40 and that included the labor. My boyfriend took the vacuum in, explained that the vacuum needed a new cord and the man then said if it would exceed $60 they would call. We went to pick it up today, and the bill came to $65!! Double what they said!! The cord cost $20 and labor cost $40!!!!! WHAT?! Plust $5 in tax! I didn't even know they could tax labor!! Absolute rip off. The vacuum only cost $100. I might as well have bought a new vacuum! Save your money and don't go to Southern Vacuum!

perhaps excellent service to their own kind???

perhaps they only provide excellent service to their own kind...My experience has been scraps of rude and indifferent service, in person or by the phone...bigotry is in the air, only go there when I have absolutely no other choice, and thats out of pity. I rather support local small businesses, than Wal-Mart

Excellent

I wish these folks manufactured vacuum cleaners as well --- maybe they'd last longer. I've been here a few times and they actually make it cost-effective to have your vacuum cleaner repaired. Most repair shops are so expensive now that you might as well buy new if something is several years old. Not only does this shop offer great service at a very affordable price. If you ask them questions, they will explain why a part failed and what the weakness in the design is for a particular model. It's nice to know why something broke and what you might be able to do to make it last longer in the future. That's service!

Knows vacuums! Very very helpful

I bought 3 vacuums in four years from several of the national department stores. They all didn't last. I went to Southern Vacuum and bought a Royal and I have had it for 3 years. I have not had to anything but replace bags. It works twice as good as any other vacuum I've ever owned and I use it everyday. They really know their stuff. they showed me why I was going through vacuums left and right and what was superior about the brand I bought. Great service, Down to earth family owned business, some of the best customer service since moving to Florida. I would highly reccomend if you need a vacuum or repair.
