At Southwest Dermatology Center, Dr. Martin Safko and his highly-skilled team offer medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology services to patients in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Safko has been been practicing dermatology in Las Vegas since 1986 and serves as the medical director of Southwest Dermatology Center.
Dr. Safko is a well trained and experienced Mohs surgeon, having trained with Dr. Frederic Mohs, the developer of the technique. Mohs is a specialized skin cancer removal method,.. achieving the highest attainable cure rate. After receiving a grant from the United States Department of Energy, Dr. Safko collaborated with scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory to produce one of the world’s first erbium skin-resurfacing lasers. The device is a specialized type of laser that uses the element erbium to produce a light energy that rejuvenates wrinkled or mildly scarred skin.
Dr. Safko received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and did his internal medicine internship at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He feels enormously grateful to have been trained by many of medicine’s greatest professors, several of whom were Nobel Prize winners.
After completing a research fellowship in immunodermatology, Dr. Safko finished his residency in dermatology at the University of Oregon Health Science Center in Portland, Oregon.
At Southwest Dermatology Center, Dr. Safko does a significant amount of cosmetic laser and non-laser procedures emphasizing noninvasive facial and body-rejuvenating procedures. He feels that his rigorous scientific background gives him an advantage in evaluating new products and procedures so he can separate fact from marketing hype.
Dr. Safko’s innovative techniques have led to features on “Good Morning America” and Canadian Network Television. He’s also formulated his own line of skin care products using natural ingredients with strong antioxidant properties to maintain and rejuvenate the skin in the harsh desert climate of Las Vegas.
I found Dr. Safko on the net. I noticed that he was American Board Certified and he has been in Las Vegas for over 20 years. That was a year ago. I and my family have seen him for all our skin care. He looks you in the eye, and does'nt talk down to you. I have Psoriasis and Dr. Safko started me out with light treatments(he has a full body light treatment room) and then I needed Xtract laser treatments. I never felt so clear of psoriasis. I know that my family and I are in good hands.

I never saw Dr Safko, only his PA who seemed like he would rather be elsewhere. He perscribed pills and creams. When that didn't work, more creams, that didn't work so more creams. All in all over $250 in medications and no cure. I think this place is more interested in cosmetics than real dermatological problems.

I picked Dr. Safko off of my provider list as I am new in town and no one I knew had been to a dermatologist so I was unable to get recommendations. I went in for a full body check (to check for potential problems with moles, etc). Based on friends/family getting full body checks, I assumed that the doctor would look all over my body for ominous moles. Instead, I was asked by the nurse to pick the 6 or 7 places that most concerned me. Well, what if I had a place that was bad but I could not see it? That was his job. Then he had to remove a mole but never explained what he was doing...just dove right in with injections and scapels...some idea of what was going on would have been nice. He also used some electric current contraption to smooth out a couple of moles and again, no explaination....I just started getting these little jarring shocks to the back of my neck. I should have walked out when the nurse asked me to pick the places on my body. That was a bad sign. Do not go to Dr. Safko.
