Dr. Cruzen runs a nice clinic. He's got plenty of staff on hand to help out and so you get great service. Just relax, and the assistants there take care of everything. Everyone there clearly loves animals and Cruzen himself is a bright guy that's also done work in avian research. He was written up in the Houston Chronicle for some of his efforts. Understand that there is a cost for this level of service, which doesn't seem to adjust whether your pet has a serious problem or a harmless one. I could never leave there for less than $75, and that was on a visit where nothing was wrong. And if they think something is wrong, even something little, well, I couldn't help but feel there's a tendency to go a little overboard here. Things could get mortgage payment expensive even if no surgery was involved. Don't get me wrong; Cruzen and staff do everything they can for your pet, but I do mean EVERYTHING. A friend found a dead bird once and brought it into Steeplechase; they performed a biopsy on the bird and handed my friend a big bill. Did I mention the bird was dead? All my friend wanted was to have it disposed of ethically. Again, I can't praise the service level of this shop enough, but if your pet is a pet and not your "baby," then you may want a vet that will leave you some money to put in a college fund for your other babies, the human ones. But if your pet is indeed your baby, and you can afford the best extra attention, then Steeplechase is for you.
