I recently took SMFTS' NRA Basic Pistol Course to learn more about handguns. I grew up around rifles -- but have limited exposure to handguns. Mac's knowledge, expertise and curriculum gave me alot... of confidence and knowledge so that I can now operate and select a handgun. I would highly recommend this class to someone wanting to learn about guns.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »

"Mac" McCullough did an outstanding job, bringing me from an experienced target shooter to a competent self-defense shooter. Mac's instruction made it clear that carrying "concealed" involves a lot more than just obtaining a license to carry. I'm so glad that I learned what Mac teaches before I became another unfortunate statistic.
"Mac" McCullough has to be one of the best natural gun instructors on the planet. His vast knowledge, patience and emphasis on safety over all else is so thorough, even if you have owned a gun for years, you will learn something from him. The courses are very detailed and encompass a book, videos, dry firing and laser target practice, followed by live fire shooting at a range. It is a lot of info to absorb, but so worth the learning if you are or plan to be handling pistols. Take this course from the best you will ever find, Mac McCullough. It may save your life or someone else's. I will take more courses/training from Mac, and highly recommend him.
Mac did a great job providing hand gun orientation and training. He was very patient and answered alll my questions.
I attended this class yesterday with my 21-year-old niece. I wanted her to have the proper training before considering gun ownership. We both needed to know the law before going forward with any additional hands on training, as well. This should absolutely be the first step to any person considering gun ownership.
My wife and I, both brand new to firearms attended the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course with Mac in January 2013. My wife had never held a gun of any kind, and I briefly went to a shooting range once before. We learned the ENTIRE day with Mac. This was a big deal since we covered so much material, but it also shows Mac's ability to effectively teach over a long period of time. In particular, my wife and I both really appreciated the premium he placed on gun safety and the “no exceptions” safety drills we did in the classroom and then transferred on the range. As a CPA, I have been through literally thousands of hours of training, and this was the single-most effective and engaging course I have ever taken, on any subject. Mac truly has the heart of a teacher and his background is second to none. He uses a blend of video and hands-on instruction that is very effective. It became very clear that ALOT of knowledge and first hand experience went into developing the training materials, and hard lessons everyone should avoid. I can't stress the value of this course, and Mac's approach in teaching sound fundamentals. I will be booking private coaching lessons with Mac in the future. I am now a more informed and responsible gun owner and a MUCH better shot.
Before taking my first class, I searched quite a bit for which company would be the best at educating and training me with regards to firearm safety, use, and effectiveness. Based on what others were saying in reviews I read, I decided to go with SMFTS and I am so glad I did. After taking my first course from Mac I was blown away at how much I learned (as in how much I didn't know). Then I thought about how little I knew before I took that course and about how many other gun owners who haven't taken any training could benefit from this type of education. I am so much more comfortable, confident, and knowledgeable with regards to using and carrying my firearm than I was before I took a course from Mac. I am convinced that there is not another trainer in Georgia that cares more about his students' firearm training, understanding, and progress than Mac. I really like his practical, responsible, and smart approach to firearms and defense. He leaves his ego out of firearms and, instead, uses his brain. Mac's biggest goals were to make sure that I was comfortable every step of the way; make sure he gave the very best, most accurate, most up-to-date, and most effective education; and to make sure that I fully understood it. He is an extremely generous trainer with both his time and his hospitality. The biggest takeaway I had with my impression of Mac was that he genuinely cares about helping other people become informed, responsible, and effective gun owners.
I took the NRA Basic Pistol Course from Mac, and it was well worth it. I learned so much about safety and handling of firearms. Mac even took extra time to teach me how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble my own personal firearm. Excellent class. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in learning to handle and shoot firearms.
I just completed my basic pistol course with Mac this evening. Although I have shot pistols many times before, Mac was able to teach me a few things I didn't know or had long since forgotten. Even the review of familiar material I found to be helpful and full of great information. He teaches material through text, animations and real-life videos, great for me since I am a visual learner. His demonstrations are solid and leaves you feeling even more comfortable with handling, safety, etc. He is clear with his information and instructions and genuine cares about each student's learning progress. I would definitely recommend Mac to anyone regardless of their prior experience, or lack of, with firearms. He is a very patient and frank instructor and a comfortable guy to be around. Ask about his Egypt experiences, they will make you laugh. Price vs. quality, Mac is selling himself short. Absolutely wonderful instructor & class. Worth every penny. Thanks Mac.
Mac is not the first firearms instructor I've had, but he is the best. I recently took my wife and daughter, neither of whom had never fired a pistol, to Mac's class. I also took the class as it had been way too long since I had shot. In addition to giving all the necessary info for the NRA class, Mac also tailored additional info to each of our specific needs. He took extra time with us to make sure we got it right, and we will certainly be back when the time comes for additional training!
Course material was tailored just to what I needed. Mac is a natural teacher; patience and thorough!
I recently went back to Mac at Stone Mountain Firearms Training Service (SMFTS) for the "law" course. It was another eye-opening experience. In four very short hours, Mac provided a world of useful information that helped to illustrate and simplify the complexities of federal and state laws with regard to the ownership, purchase, and use of firearms by an individual citizen. I live more than a hundred miles south of the Atlanta area, but the information presented during this course certainly made the drive worth the time and effort. If you're a gun owner, you need to attend this class.
If you haven't taken this class you should. It is extremely informative and Mac goes above and beyond making sure you understand the information. There are many laws and he makes sure you are aware of them. He provides handouts and website links for further review. He answers all questions. You can't go wrong taking this class and the price is right. If you own a firearm take this class!
My husband and I recently got our first pistol. I wanted to learn everything about it and found Stone Mountain Firearms/Owner Mac McCullough through the NRA. I also researched reviews on this site. They are all true - we found a great company for instruction! We spent classroom time learning about guns and technique. Mac was so patient and knowledgeable and created a true learning environment. He gave us a process to firing so that when we had live practice, I felt comfortable with the steps and had some really great shots. We definitely plan to use the company again for future training/instruction. Give them a call!
